David Perdue gets clear shot at Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp with Vernon Jones primary exit

Vernon Jones exited the race for the Republican nomination for Georgia governor, leaving former Sen. David Perdue with an unobstructed opportunity to oust Gov. Brian Kemp.

The move excited Perdue supporters, who appeared to relish the chance for a one-on-one matchup with Kemp and expressed confidence their candidate would scoop up Jones’s presumably anti-incumbent supporters as the May 24 nominating contest nears. Perdue, endorsed by former President Donald Trump, is running primarily on the former president’s claims that the governor facilitated election fraud in 2020 and delivered Georgia’s electoral votes to President Joe Biden. He has trailed Kemp in recent public opinion polls.

Well like I said, right now Kemp is polling over 60% in the primary race...

Even after the consolidation of Jordan dropping out, he’s down over 20 points.... If he’s going to primary Kemp, he’s going to have to move the NEEDLE a lot....

Then there is the General election which will almost certainly be against Abrams... and like it or not, right now, Kemp beats Abrams in general election polling by 2-4 points in most polling I’ve seen. Perdue loses in a head to head.

I know, polls are polls, and there is a LONG way to go before election day... but Perdue has to move the need HUGE between now and then. I don’t know if Trump rallies alone are going to get him there...

He’s got to find a track that connects and work it hard.

Primary is May, General is Nov... so he’s got a little more than 3 months to move the needle for the primary... and honestly if he can’t show he’ll beat Abrams, I by then I suspect Kemp will win.

Because the fact Kemp has 60% support now shows GA don’t know, or don’t care by and large about the fraud of 2020, and his role in it.

The last poll I saw Perdue was leading Kemp by 7 points. Kemp is well hated by Georgia Trump voters.

Kemp listened to McConnell and appointed Loser Loeffler

Where is Doug Collins these days? He seemed top notch, but if I remember Kemp screwed him again somehow in the primary against Loeffler. Thanks.

“Where is Doug Collins these days? He seemed top notch, but if I remember Kemp screwed him again somehow in the primary against Loeffler. Thanks.”

Kemp appointed Loeffler and then Collins decided to run for the seat as well, leaving no candidate in November (essentially the primary) receiving over 50%, triggering the runoff. Loeffler got more votes than Collins so it was she and Warnock in the runoff. Kemp may have done things to make sure Loeffler was ahead of Collins in November but I don’t remember.

But either way, Kemp preferred Loeffler over Collins, and he would have preferred Warnock over Collins. Because that’s how he is.

Kemp opened the entire state up in April/May of 2020. I give him a lot of credit for that. Georgia was the first major state to open up that way. Being unmasked back in my gym in April 2020, or restaurants and breweries in May 2020, while the rest of the world lived in an alternate universe was a big deal to me. Trump threw him under the bus and let Fauci and Birx crap down Kemp’s throat.

My theory is that Trump and Kemp had discussed it and agreed to it, but then when the media heat was turned up over Georgia’s “deathwish”, Trump tossed Kemp aside like garbage.

Thanks, I think I remember now. Kemo setup the election/timing so there was no final direct Republican runoff between just Collins and Loeffler, as Collins was late to enter the wide open primary and was gaining at the time. Or something very similar, but Kemp screwed Collins twice. Wonder why he’s not in the Governor’s race, or maybe he was and just seen as too far to the right by some there at this point unfortunately. Georgia is a mess.
