When he was young, Washington wanted very much to be a military leader in the British army - and he became one; he was a very gifted soldier.

Eventually, as history evolved, his head and heart told him which way to ultimately go.

That is not true either.   I have read the biography of George Washington by Washington Irving, which was filled with contemporary witnesses, and it is clear that George Washington gave all due deference to King George as the monarch of England.   Our American Revolution was not like the French Revolution where their King was put to death.

Our Revolution severed ties with our mother country because of the offences identified in our Declaration of Independence.
