Could you imagine a scenario where aging rockers Neil Young and Joni Mitchell could team up and force Rush Limbaugh to make an apology, and possibly moderate his content going forward?
Yet, that’s exactly what happened last week when the two no longer relevant Boomer artists threatened to pull their music from Spotify to force the platform to seemingly pressure Joe Rogan to perform a public mea culpa for two recent episodes of his hugely successful “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast.
It doesn’t matter that the vast majority of Spotify users had no idea who Neil Young or Joni Mitchell were before this past week, Spotify knew it did not want more musical artists to join the bandwagon, so the response to these “Boomers for censorship” has been to institute a content advisory for any material that features COVID-19 information. Since then, a smattering of equally unimpressive artists have shown support for Young and Mitchell.
For his part, Rogan posted an Instagram video where he apologized to Spotify and clarified his stance regarding those two episodes and the campaign to censor him. To be sure, his response didn’t even come close to a grovel. In fact, without being heavy-handed he presented a pretty solid and reasonable defense against the rather fluid nature of the attacks on his content. Still, it was obvious that he spoke to an audience of one, which was Spotify.
“I want to thank Spotify for being so supportive during this time and I’m verry sorry that this is happening to them and that they’re taking so much heat from it,” he said.
Spotify is the largest music streaming platform in the world. While it has made significant progress towards competing against Apple in the podcast space, music is still Spotify’s bread and butter.

Good point.
The following is what I would have said: Give me a break Rogan. That arrogant pos occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave was the worst president ever.
Tim, I knew Rush Limbaugh, he was like a friend to me. . and, Tim. . Joe Rogan is no Rush Limbaugh.
So I whined and complained as I saw Frank Zappa 3x, Van Halen in 80-82, Live Aid in Philadelphia, Yes, ELP, the classic lineup of Deep Purple, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Les Paul, The Who with Entwistle numerous times, Anthrax in the early years, David Lee Roth, Buddy Rich, Sarah Vaughn, and countless others that today are considered classics.
Today, younger music fans respond to my list with "wow...you saw THEM? Dude, that's awesome...I'll NEVER see them...music is dead..." Sounds familiar.
But at the time, had I put my head in the sand, my short sightedness would have caused me to miss great things. And the truth is, the kids today are seeing bands that, in 20-30 years time, will give them a list that will impress the future youngsters.
The reality is, Limbaugh is dead. RIP. The next great innovator is right here amongst us. Maybe it's Rogan, maybe it's Tucker, maybe it's Yaelle or Salamander or kiryandil or logi_cal869, or maybe it's someone else (I prefer Andrew Wikow to Limbaugh...he has better facts and he isn't on his fourth wife).
I don't know who is that innovator, who will open eyes, red pill Americans, and in 30 years will be The Top Commentator. And say what you want about Rogan, he IS redpilling youngsters at a crazy rate and commands more attention than the MSM or Fauci or any other loser...make no doubt about it, this isn't about "misinformation"....THAT is why they're after him
...but I DO know, we will miss him or her - and liberty will be lost - if we continue to sit shiva for years.
I miss Rush.
“The next great innovator is right here amongst us. Maybe it’s Rogan, maybe it’s Tucker, maybe it’s Yaelle or Salamander or kiryandil or logi_cal869”
Actually, it’s none of the above, it’s BobL.
"...she’s the wife of the best president that we have had in our lifetime in terms of like a representative of intelligent, articulate people.”(emphasis added)
Obama WAS the pinnacle of what the intelligencia of America has to offer, that made it into the White House...attorney, well-rehearsed, slick, polished. The closest inhabitant of the White House in that realm before 2009 was Kennedy.
If Rogan was spouting some love for Obama as you posit, he wouldn't have had the qualifiers.
So the NYT is not responsible for the articles and opeds it publishes? Dang, we got a lotta condemning of the NYT, the Wapo and other media to walk back!
My good FRiend, I shall ask the Admin Moderator to correct the post. Well done.
Maybe the only thing I question about your comments :)
Have never listened to Rogan and don’t plan to; still this treatment of him is wrong.
As far as these “musicians” are concerned, what little I’ve heard of them is garbage.
LOL!
But it is true. I don't get my cues on "what is good" from Sony et al. If you haven't, please check out Bandcamp for a massive searchable audio base of unsigned but (in many cases) great, vibrant, fresh, innovative new music.
Here is a new music review/post from a few months ago, if you haven't the time or patience for fishing.
My point is that Rogan is not a conservative. You indicate that he’s a liberal and not a moderate. Even more than I thought, that means he’s not a conservative.
Rogan who is a liberal with some powerful lapses into common sense has shot off two of his toes with the apology. He is no longer credible. To regain anything of his previously accumulated stature he should quit spotify and forgo the contracted earnings then go to another nonWoke platform with notices put on all the relevant boards.
No one should ever apologize for telling the truth
...................
Exactly. Never. You are admitting guilt and asking for a pile on.
NO! I did NOT indicate he's a liberal
My post states clearly Rogan is a supporter of radical leftwing communists - i.e. Bernie Sanders.
Please stop attributing your make believe quotes to me - that is total dishonesty and typical of a CNN follower.
A Bernie supporter isn’t a liberal in your view. Fine.
I don’t agree, but you are allowed to interpret your own writing, I suppose.
