I don’t like anything, and I liked “The Wire.” It had black lesbians, and black crooks, and black heroes in a predominantly black city, but closed with a white cop turned teacher. Just a magnificent ending.

“The Wire” was actually based on real people who lived in Baltimore—that was part of why it felt so authentic.

I watched that and then commuted into our local big city—and everything looked different.

I could actually a spot a drug handoff, criminals scouting a vehicle or construction site for a future theft, etc.

It was a totally stunning show.
