The legal disposition of the rifle used by Kyle Rittenhouse in self-defense, during the riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin, has been settled.
Kevin Matheson, of Kenosha County Eye, was in court when Judge Schroeder validated the agreement, by all parties.
Minutes: Case livestreamed. Clerk/T. Lema. ADA Thomas Binger appeared for the State. Atty Mark Richards appeared on behalf of deft. Atty Xavier Solis appeared on behalf of The Fightback Foundation. Atty Francine Felske appeared on behalf of Carriage Capital. ADA Binger reports the State has returned the the deft’s articles previously w/held to the deft except the firearm. Parties have reached a stipulation as to the firearm; firearm will be destroyed.
Rittenhouse is reported as saying all his property from that day would be thrown away, as the shootings should not be celebrated.
Kevin Matheson, from the Kenosha County Eye, communicated to this reporter: Dominick Black’s rifle was said to have been returned to him.
Here are links to videos of what was going on in the courtroom when Judge Bruce Schroeder validated the arrangement.

On the video of Rekieta Law, at about 1:24:00, the panel of lawyers discusses the disposition of the rifle Kyle used.
The rifle may not have been the focus of the lawyers’ attention. Instead, it appears most of the negotiation was centered on how to divvy up the two million in bond money to be returned.
From the kenoshacountyeye.com:
According to court records obtained today by the Kenosha County Eye, the $2,000,000 will be split three ways:
- $150,000 Ricky Schroeder (Conservative Activist & Actor)
- $925,000 Fight Back Foundation (Founded by Lyn Wood)
- $925,000 Richards & Dimmer, S.C.,

Misread the title, I thought there was a custom AR -15 built called the “Kyle Rittenhouse” out there.
Bad gun!
The event is not celebrated but used as a lesson on tactics.
I don’t see this as a bad thing. It is macabre to celebrate an instrument used in death.
Great gun you mean. It was used to dispatch two vicious, serial criminals straight to hell where they belong
and will Lin Wood return what people donated? I think most of it, if not all, came from donations from misc people on the web.
Kyle’s been making appearances and saying he wants it destroyed. He’s getting his wish.
I doubt the crime lab is set up to vaporize the subject firearm; how long do you think it will be, before bits and pieces (either legally or illegally obtained, and verifiable or not) start showing up at auction?
The world wonders...
Bull shit! It [the rifle] will find its way to the house of one of the big shots. If it hasn’t already.
Celebrate? Nobody’s suggesting that it should be enshrined or anything. I don’t see the point in destroying it, though. It’s a machine. It did its job correctly. Why destroy it? This just sends the message that guns are inherently evil and self-defense is something to be ashamed of. Both attitudes are very wrong.
Destruction of the rifle sends the wrong messages — that the gun was at fault and that he needs to feel guilty about his self defense. He should auction the rifle and donate the proceeds to an outfit like the Second Amendment Foundation. Or if that’s too much for his timid PC lawyers, something like helping victims of rape.
Or an instrument of life....do you think Kyle would be alive today if he was unarmed? Who should be alive, the criminals who chose to kill him and lost?
May as well pass a law requiring all cars involved in vehicular death be put down. Like a rabid animal.
Someone please correct me if I’m wrong.
I thought the rifle belonged to someone else, who let Kyle use it. So the rifle belongs to not-Kyle, and Kyle doesn’t have a legal say in it (other than expressing the PC opinion).
Reminds me of a cartoon I saw a long time ago (wish I could find it again): an angry crowd on a city street was lynching a handgun, and two obvious crooks (dressed in dark clothing with masks on) were standing at the edge of the crowd, and one said to the other, “They let me go and arrested my gun!”
Probably Binger.
Yup,,,
There is no middle ground. If it is not destroyed, it will become a desirable historical object for which many will pay a high dollar.
