Joni Mitchell announced Friday that she will join her friend Neil Young in pulling her music off of Spotify.
Mitchell, 78, said in a statement posted to her website, “I’ve decided to remove all my music from Spotify. Irresponsible people are spreading lies that are costing people their lives. I stand in solidarity with Neil Young and the global scientific and medical communities on this issue.”
Mitchell, who like Young survived polio as a child, also linked to an open letter signed by hundreds of doctors and medical professionals who said that Spotify’s top podcast, “The Joe Rogan Experience,” promotes “baseless conspiracy theories and has a concerning history of broadcasting misinformation, particularly regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.”

She must’ve had her teeth fixed.
Both from Canada.
I didn’t even know Manilow was even ON Spotify to begin with.
BTW, my sister was a big Spotify fan, It was on, on, on, all the time.
Then she got back into Vinyl.
Now we go “Vinyl Hunting” together at all the flea markets and yard sales, clean ‘em’ spin ‘em, reminisce, enjoy the cover art and liner notes, and fill our homes with the music that involves all of the five senses:
Sight: The Cover Art, Liner Notes, and Lyrics printed out on the inner sleeve, and other oddities of certain cover designs such as the working zipper on “Sticky Fingers”, the Posters folded up inside certain albums, the die-cut jackets of Rod Stewart and the Rolling Stones, and the different colored vinyl on some of the newer releases.
Hearing: The wonderful, warm, Analog sound that uses the full frequency spectrum and is not compressed into a teeny-weeny MP3 bandwidth.
Smell: Ah, the smell of fresh vinyl, the stinging pungency of record-cleaning-fluid, the musky undertone of old cardboard, and even the topnote of fresh plastic wrap on new releases, all contribute to the bouquet of record-collecting.
Taste: Well, this is subjective, but modern music sucks. Classic Rock on the original vinyl in good condition (produced on REAL musical instruments) beats the alleged auto-tuned, quantized, sequenced, CRAP that passes for music these days.
and, finally,
Touch: The actual feel of the bass rumbling your kishkes from big Klipsch or Vintage Altec-Lansing Speakers, driven by a Marantz or Harmon-Kardon Amplifier, and the sensation of actually being “inside” the music. Touch is also involved in delicately opening the plastic sleeve with a razor blade, sliding out the inner sleeve, removing the record carefully by its edges, placing it on the turntable, and lowering the needle in the exact right spot so it doesn’t fall off...and then hearing that first note.
Spotify can’t compete with that. And with Spotify, they CHOOSE THE MUSIC for you.
And so, I am going out to shovel mass quanities of snow right now, but first, I think I will put on side two of Abby Road and crank it.
BTW, Neil and Joni are being “Establishment Hacks” by standing up for Big Pharma and the CDC.
They used to be rebels.
Now, not so much.
Just virtue-signaling self-righteous pharissees. Ugh.
I will NOT buy any of THEIR vinyl, even for a buck at Salvation Army.
Does anyone else familiar with the industry see that this is all just a publicity stunt to bring “forgotten has beens” back into the limelight for a last ditch effort to make a buck?
Mostly second generation hippie leftists who “need” to have a cause.
Most be their recognition (royalties)are waning?
Actually, that’s why Abba.
They increase their sales of old songs to a new generation.
And the original fans come back.
They don’t even have to perform live. A hologram is enough.
They’ll make millions.
Unlike these mostly outdated washed up performers.
Since Joni Mitchell isn’t here right now, I will ask everyone else... who in their estimation, have spread more lies about the COVID Pandemic... Joe Rogan, or the Federal Government? I think that is a fair question.
Yep, absolutely... It is all a marketing con conducted by their managers.
Neil Young apparently has plenty of Pfizer stock. This is all about feathering his own nest.
Maybe we can get all the whining commie musicians to cancel themselves?
Yep.
Not only this, but is the irony of Neil Young, a Canadian citizen, missing the biggest Canadian demonstration in their history not a story in and of itself?
A demonstration of the people, for freedom?
It's true, drug addicts dig needles and injections.
Well, there is another song, no one cares about, gone from Spotify.
Another10 people in nursing homes angry at Spotify over this
You’ll know it’s series when Milli Vanilli jumps aboard.
Well, OK then.
Poor babies can’t handle Joe Rogan? So much for looking at things from both sides, now.
