Neil Young's discography will no longer be available on Spotify.
The musician, 76, gave the music streaming platform an ultimatum earlier this week between his music and Joe Rogan's podcast. On Wednesday, Spotify confirmed that it would be removing his songs for the time being.
"We want all the world's music and audio content to be available to Spotify users," a spokesperson for Spotify said in a statement to PEOPLE on Wednesday. "With that comes great responsibility in balancing both safety for listeners and freedom for creators. We have detailed content policies in place and we've removed over 20,000 podcast episodes related to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic. We regret Neil's decision to remove his music from Spotify, but hope to welcome him back soon."
In an open letter shared to his website on Monday that appears to have since been deleted, Young took a stand against COVID misinformation that he said was being disseminated in Rogan's podcast.
"I am doing this because Spotify is spreading fake information about vaccines – potentially causing death to those who believe the disinformation being spread by them," he wrote, according to Rolling Stone and Variety. "Please act on this immediately today and keep me informed of the time schedule."

He (didn’t) see the needle and the damage done….
WTH is a Spotify, anyway?
NY has not produced any music of particular note in many years. In fact, pretty much everything he's done in the last two decades has been embarrassingly bad. In his prime, though, he was terrific. That said, he is and always has been a truly despicable human being.
Neil has two sons with cerebral palsy (not autism) by two different women. CP is a brain disorder that develops prior to birth. It has nothing to do with vaccines. The fact that he has two kids with it from two different women suggests that he carries some gene that makes it more likely. Incidentally, his daughter has epilepsy like Neil does. Neil is/was a great talent who has had quite a life, but I wouldn’t trade places with him.
Neil Young’s music sucks and he is a rotten old angry man.
“Neil Young has the poorest impulse control of anyone in the music scene.”
It’s symptomatic of getting high off his own farts. He should get help for that. Im sure there’s a 12 Step Program he can attend!
I stopped caring about Neil Young when he came out with his band “Shocking Pink”.
What horrible, horrible crap. Like fingernails on a chalkboard.
Rock stars...
Here’s what I think about CSN and sometimes Y, they were part of the problem, not the solution. And for the most part their music as a group and individual efforts didn’t age well.
They made lots of money, drank expensive wine, took expensive boutique quality drugs, sucked up a bunch of collectible guitars making them even more collectible! Dressed funny. Individually CSN & sometimes Y are ¾ joke and then there’s Nash the cork sniffing wine snob.
I would rather watch golf tourneys and bowling for dollars.
I don’t see how Spotify is responsible for spreading anything. Rogan has an opinion and it’s intolerant anti free speech liberal hippies like Neil that are a danger to this country. Go on Rohan’s show Neil and prove your point instead of censoring free speech. Old 60’s hippies suck!
No one has voluntarily listened to him in 50 years. His music is long dead, let the crazy old man go too.
Fruit Loop
I’ll bet that a significant chunk of Spotify users never heard of the guy.
Can’t wait for Young’s “I’ll give you one last chance” tweet.
(not that I’m on twitter, but am sure I’ll hear about it)
Neil’s been handling a pipe too long. Plus an overrated Canuckistan for his music.
This is hilarious. I’m not surprised at all that young is a hardcore Branch Covidian.
He has been lying in that burned-out basement for far too long.
Evidently Neil is unaware that, according to the CDC’s own numbers, the Fauci/China biological warfare virus has a 99.74% survival rate...
...or that 70% of the people who died from it had four or more comorbidities.
