Until Bork, it used to be that.

Bork is when the democrats changed the rules for Republican nominees. 35 years later and the Republicans are still playing by the old rules when it comes to democrat nominees.

Something about Bork that I like pointing out to liberals. After the democrats borked Bork, Reagan nominated Kennedy for the seat. Bork died in 2012, when Obama was President and the democrats controlled the Senate. If Bork had been on the Supreme Court then Obama could have replaced him with a far left-wing liberal who would be legislating from the bench for the next 30 or 40 years. Instead, Kennedy retired when Trump was President and the Republicans controlled the Senate, so Trump was able to fill the seat with Kavanaugh.

Combine that with the fact that Ginsburg refuse to retire while Obama was President, thinking that President Hillary would replace her with a good far left-wing liberal, and then had the gall not to live long enough for Biden to replace her. But for Bork and Ginsburg, the liberals would now have a majority on the Supreme Court.

Kavanaugh may turn out to be a clone of Roberts. But that is far preferable to a far left-wing leftist.

I noticed the same two things, nice to know I wasn’t the only one.
