FWIW, the expansion of Medicare and Medicaid significantly reduced the profitability and sustainability in healthcare. I know very few people that consider them a positive influence compared to most who consider them a huge imposition and barrier. They sabotaged the private health insurance industry which has led directly to the cost shifting to patients.
If you work in a business that can only survive with massive Federal spending, then you were never really a free person to begin with.
