The problem is, Australia seems to have a collective obsession with getting rid of Covid entirely, 100% ... and that’s not possible
nobody says “we have to be completely rid of the flu, because it’s killing the elderly” [which is true] ... Australia’s current over-reach is counter-productive and hurting people, businesses, the whole country
yet anybody who questions the Government’s moves is treated like a menace
not a good look!
No, Australia doesn't have such a collective obsession. Some Australian states did have that obsession at one point. The Commonwealth government never, ever did. But people overseas only seem to get told about the states that were manic in that pursuit - not the rest of the country that wasn't.
And even the states that did want 'COVID Zero' gave up on that months ago now, with the arguable exception of Western Australia.
People overseas seem to see Australia as a single monolithic entity. It's not - it's a federation of six states and two territories each with separate governments that differ both in terms of policy and ideologies. But the only ones that the media outside Australia seems to tell anybody about are the far left wing states. Why? Because the media is generally pretty far left and they would prefer the rest of it didn't exist. But it causes all sorts of problems - which has lead to a lot of people really not understanding what's being go on with Djokovic.
Victoria, the most far left state in Australia, the one that has done the most to oppress it's people over the last two years by a huge margin, the least democratic and the most totalitarian state in Australia - has just won. It's taken control of entry to Australia out of the hands of the conservative federal government. Whatever you may think of this individual case, the precedent this sets is horrific. And unconstitutional as well.
