Imagine: It is September 4, 2035, in Miami and a large Cat. 5 hurricane is offshore headed straight for the city.
Roughly 7 million persons are in the general area where the hurricane will come ashore in 24 hours. The governor orders an evacuation of the Miami–Fort Lauderdale area of Florida. All of the cars start heading north on I-95. All lanes are cleared to head northbound. With Congress and President Cortez having mandated that all cars built after 2030 must be electric (no hybrids), everyone heads north, but now all the people are caught up in a terrible traffic jam.
Electric cars are starting to stall out on I-95 as well as the A1A and the Turnpike as they run out of power. There are simply not enough charging stations to charge the cars, and police monitoring the available chargers are limiting drivers to 15 minutes. Chargers are shutting down as water shorts out the charging heads on the cars. The electric cars are turning off their air-conditioners to preserve their remaining charge.
You are stuck in a traffic jam all night with the storm headed right at you. No battery, no A/C, no windshield-wipers, no GPS. All that you can do is call 911 and hope for help, but they can't because all of the roads are blocked with stalled electric vehicles. The new electric police and EMT vehicles mandated by President Cortez soon are out of juice. The wind is increasing. Then Florida Power and Light turns off the grid as power lines come down.

Have you priced gas cars and trucks? A diesel 4x4 extended cab will set you back $75-100k depending on options and this was before the prices went up the last few years

I put that exact thing out here a few days ago. I asked, what I thought was, a very simple question:
Is it possible that the new Ford Lightening could power the truck and then power an entire home? Rather than a simple: Yes, No Way, Possibly-under Ideal conditions, but not for very long. I got a thesis on generators, watts, etc etc etc. Which I took with a grain of salt, knowing a little bit of what it takes to power a home using a generator backup, but it led me to ask another question to the person that responded.
The response was that he/she could power up their home with a 5k generator. Knowing the little I know, it has to be a very small house, with very few appliances.
Never really got an actual answer from the person, just told that I wanted inane conversation and I was a ‘noob’, whatever that is.
But the questions that I always have for those in the Electric Vehicle Cult:
How do you charge your vehicle? Solar? Wind? Plug into an outlet in your home? If it’s, plug into your home and power grid, are the emissions from the FOSSIL FUELED power plant less than that of a car w/ a gas engine? Or is it, since the power plant is miles away you can ignore that inconvenient fact?
When it comes time to recycle the battery, as one guy recently found out and burned his car up rather than shell out $23k for a new battery, are you ok with the fact that it is cheaper to build a new battery than recycle the old one? And since recycled stuff doesn’t have the same efficiency as a new one(buy a recycled battery of any kind and tell me it works as good as a new one...ha ha ), will you buy a new one?
If you do and given the fact that you’re so GREEN, because you have an electric car, are you ok with the mass deforestation going on in the world due to the mining of nickel and lithium? Or, is that ok since, like the power plant, it’s miles away and inconvenient for you to address?
Did the government, without any input from the taxpayer, decide to give you some sort of tax break to incentivize the purchase of your EV?
On top of all of that, China controls, roughly, 80% of the lithium on the planet. Everyone’s new BFF, Elon Musk, is increasing his business footprint in China. China will soon start producing EVs. Will China keep the lithium for its own production or will they happily sell the lithium to their competitors at Ford, GM, Rivian, Mercedes, BMW, etc etc etc?
And of course, at the end of the day, one always has to come back to the fact that they just don’t work like the EV-Cultists promise they will...

The free market will prevail and come through.
10 years from now 1/2 the cars on the highway or more will be electric and most of the challenges will have been solved by the free market.

Sorry but people Used to prepare and take care of themselves. Now everyone looks for the govt to take care of themselves. But now everyone thinks if they get into a bad situation. It can’t be their fault. Then the blame games begin.

Where does this electric bus you’ve ridden get its electricity from? A suspended wire that has an electrical current? If so, then it would be a trolley of some type, would it not? If so, then, for the most part, the power for that bus comes from a FOSSIL FUEL power plant.

So there are 12 fast chargers, 120 cars need to use them and they’re in a hurry because they have to get out of town, quick. Then they all get on the highway which is slammed with traffic and they sit there, creeping along. How long do they last then?
Is it? They can sit in traffic for 3 hours, drive for 2 and then need another 15 minute charge with another 120 EVs waiting on the charging station?
Oh......where does the electricity for the ‘fast charging stations’ come from? A fossil fueled power plant, solar panels or a wind turbine? If it’s the last two, they simply will not be able to keep up. If it’s the first one, than you’re a hypocrite.
I heard this on the radio and the amount was $17K so I don’t know if it was an error on the radio or if it’s a different case. Whatever the situation it’s insane.

Well that is just one station. My local Pilot put them in last summer and a new bell’s store is also putting them in.
You do know restaurant chains are planning on putting them them in to attract customers to eat at their places?
Don’t get caught up in all the doom and gloom regarding EV’s.
Mercedes is going 100% EV by 2030. Do those Germans take dummy pills? I dont think so.
