Quebec to require vaccine proof for cannabis and liquor shoppers

Retail liquor and cannabis shops in Canada's Quebec province will require shoppers to show proof of vaccination amid a rising surge of new Covid cases.

The new measure goes into effect on Tuesday, 18 January. Health officials say they hope the order will encourage more people to get vaccinated.

New cases are spiking in Quebec despite the region having one of the highest vaccination rates in the world.

On Thursday, health officials warned of a "tsunami" of new hospital admissions.

Quebec Health Minister Christian Dubé told reporters that customers will have to display proof of vaccination to enter the government-run Société des alcools du Québec and Société québécoise du cannabis stores.

"I'm just saying that if you don't want to get vaccinated, stay home," he said, adding that more restrictions are coming soon.

"If unvaccinated people are unhappy about it,"Mr Dubé added, "there's a very simple solution: getting vaccinated."

Proof of vaccine is already required in health facilities, theatres, bars and indoor sport and performance venues.

A curfew is also in place, running from 22:00 to 05:00 each day.

My daughter works at a liquor store. One of the first places deemed essential.

The regular drinkers were going to be getting the DTs and the casual drinkers were going to be stuck at home all day with the wife and rug rats.

She started selling it from a card table outside the front door with another one bringing the stuff out to her

Does Canada have a moonshine culture? It’s no all that easy to make hooch that won’t injure yourself or other’s. If the black market is stealing bonded taxes liquor you can bet the Mounties will be all over it. Canada will give you real jail time for tax evasion they don’t mess a round with government money streams all socialist countries guard their revenue streams with fervor. You can get more prison time for bootlegging than for manslaughter in Canada.

The documentary is about a London hairdresser who identifies as a Canadian lumberjack, not an actual Canadian lumberjack.

That said, it is one of the best documentaries on the subject, though not equal to the documentary produced by the same firm on a Jew who wants to identify as a Jewess.

It’s not working, so naturally the answer is to do more of the same.

Thanks—see my post 32.

And in the end Canadian Lumberjacks are OK.

People from London, maybe not, people from Toronto, probably not.

Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie (a band from Edmonton) demonstrates that Canadians are capable of a decent amount of self-deprecating humour and provides a very good basic critique of Toronto. Especially the line “They think they’re New York” (the original name of Toronto, FWIW, is York, so the shoe fits very nice in multiple ways).

“ She started selling it from a card table outside the front door with another one bringing the stuff out to her”

I have an acquaintance who owns a liquor store. He said 2020 was a banner year for him.

Trudeau should consider the same thing with Cuban cigars.

His dad would never approve of it. Nor would Pierre...
