The author overlooks an important point. Whites may be 58% of the population, but I suspect they are a much smaller portion of the viewing audience for broadcast (“free”) television.

Let’s be brutally honest here. TV commercials are designed to appeal to not-so-intelligent people who spend a lot of time watching television and are easily swayed by a sales pitch. I’m actually pleased that Caucasians — especially men who are not openly gay — are disappearing from these stupid commercials.

Good point, I know, other than for sports, I haven't watched anything on the "free" networks for years.

Commercials are more sophisticated than the regular programming. Programming such as comedy shows are geared to a 6th grade level, while commercials are a 10th grade level. Soon we will be getting bombarded with political commercials, a big form of revenue for T.V. in an election year.

I think that you have hit on something here...who is going to create targeted advertising that has no audience?
