If nuclear can provide the recharge quickly and batteries can be improved substantially, why not?

Why not?

A) Nuclear isn't happening.

B) Lack of a grid that can handle it. Even Elon says the grid is nowhere near sufficient. Utilities barely keep up with maintenance, not even considering the push to get more of the grid underground.

I'd add that with prices of conductors where they are now, the cost of a major grid upgrade would be incredible.
