You're being very conservative. I'm retirement-age and I can remember both my grandfathers complaining about the Chryslers they bought as young men being junk.
I recall my uncle was a MOPAR fan back in the 1960s & 1970s.
My father was always thought they were junk. He was a GM fan until the 1980’s when they started making junk. Finally, in 1988 he bought my mom a Honda Accord. My father fought the Japanese in WWII on New Guinea and Luzon. He came home from Luzon on a hospital ship. He always said “never trust a Jap, they are sneaky ba$tards”. So, it was really hard for him to buy a Japanese car.
