The writing is on the wall. By 2030 or so, EVs will be the standard. Legacy gas cars will still be around, but only until they run out of refueling options.
“Red Barchetta”
My uncle has a country place
That no one knows about
He says it used to be a farm
Before the Motor Law
And on Sundays I elude the eyes
And hop the Turbine Freight
To far outside the Wire
Where my white-haired uncle waits
Jump to the ground
As the Turbo slows to cross the borderline
Run like the wind
As excitement shivers up and down my spine
Down in his barn
My uncle preserved for me an old machine
For fifty odd years
To keep it as new has been his dearest dream
I strip away the old debris
That hides a shining car
A brilliant red Barchetta
From a better vanished time
I fire up the willing engine
Responding with a roar
Tires spitting gravel
I commit my weekly crime
Wind
In my hair
Shifting and drifting
Mechanical music
Adrenaline surge...
Well-weathered leather
Hot metal and oil
The scented country air
Sunlight on chrome
The blur of the landscape
Every nerve aware
Suddenly ahead of me
Across the mountainside
A gleaming alloy air car
Shoots towards me, two lanes wide
I spin around with shrieking tires
To run the deadly race
Go screaming through the valley
As another joins the chase
Drive like the wind
Straining the limits of machine and man
Laughing out loud with fear and hope
I’ve got a desperate plan
At the one-lane bridge
I leave the giants stranded at the riverside
Race back to the farm
To dream with my uncle at the fireside
There will be no way to fuel gasoline cars, and the EV’s will not be good enough for anything beyond short commutes. Of course there will be Limo’s to take the VIP’s to the airport, and helicopters, to say nothing of yachts. There is just not enough ability to generate electricity to charge these vehicles, they will be sitting in garages as storage units for the power grid. It is an integral part of the power “production” grid. The power generated by solar by day, and wind will be stored for the night in the cars we drive.
Once the price becomes lower than gas or hybrid cars, there’s numerous charging stations and they make a seamless transition, then I see it possible in 10 years.
I recently bought a Rav4 hybrid and a friend with a Tesla. The only thing I don’t like about his car is the 250 mile range and the 40 minutes to charge. Long trips, as of now add several hours. Once that changes to 700 mile range and 5 minute charges then I’m in.
BTW, there are a few concerns. I don’t believe our power grid could handle 130 million cars and millions of trucks and busses being charged daily. Also, a lot of mechanics will be looking for jobs because these cars are very reliable, few to no hydraulics and brakes last 150k miles or more.
Madness. Buy airline stock. They are the big winner. Any trip over 300 miles will have to be by air. Rental car companies will benefit too.
Good, then we'll have 99 cent/gallon gas. Maybe I'll buy a BIG truck.

An old mechanical fuel-injection Mercedes diesel will run on vegetable oil, veggie oil bought straight off the shelf at Kroger or Meijers ...
Shut your yappy little Chinese mouth.
