Los Angeles Covid Positivity Rate Soars As California Models Predict Hospitalization Surges Due To Omicron
Deadline ^ | 12/27

Posted on 12/27/2021 9:48:21 PM PST by Tipllub

Los Angeles County reported 7,425 new cases of Covid and nine additional deaths on Monday. But those numbers were artificially low due to reporting delays from the holiday weekend.

The region’s test positivity rate — which is considered a more accurate indication of infection spread because it is an average and also a percentage, rather than a raw number — told a different story.

Last Monday, L.A.’s 7-day average test positivity rate was 3.4%. Today, that same 7-day average has risen more than 300% to 12.4%. That’s a shockingly steep rise over the course of 8 days in a data point that is an average, not a raw number. The one-day numbers are equally shocking.

On December 20, the reported test positivity (for that day alone) was 8%. That number alone would have qualified it for the “Widespread” infections category in last winter’s guidelines issued by the State of California for county reopening.

By Sunday, however, the single-day test positivity rate had jumped to 26%. That’s among the highest, if not the highest, single-day test positivity rates of the pandemic. According to the L.A. County data dashboard, the only day that even comes close is December 26, 2020, at the absolute peak community transmission of the winter 2020 surge. Given the steepness of the trend line and the spread of Omicron, it is unlikely to dip in the next few days.

I would have been labeled a conspiracy theorist and serious wack job if I said 2 years ago that the common cold would shut down the country.

I think Newsome has become emboldened to be even more of a jerk since he escaped the recall election. Why wouldn’t he screw the superbowl. He’s certainly screwed the entire state of California with mandates. Maybe Goodell is slipping him some money under the table to leave the superbowl alone.

Russia reported 937 Covid deaths today, because for some reason they care about Fauci. At least they do in your world. In your world nobody died of Covid today in Russia. It was all faked by the Democrats.

The test positivity rate in Ireland is 50%

Without getting into the COVID insanity, let me give a shoutout to this rather amazing pathogen.

Case #1 November 17, Botswana. December 28, probably 1 billion + infections and present in every country - there is a superspreader event in the Faroe Islands!

Hat’s off to you, Omi! You really can put up the numbers!

Jim, has any virus ever been tracked as thoroughly as this one? It’s phenomenal, really. Medical researchers will pursue new avenues of inquiry. And in the end, Jane and John Doe will receive treatments hitherto unknown. Thanks for sharing your knowledge of medicine with us on FR.

Owen, the death rate for Omicron is no higher than that of the common cold. I am not aware that this is even being debated at this time, except maybe by you. If 937 people died from Covid in Russia today it was not from Omicron. Instead of being a whiny baby send me a link that shows Omicron is causing many deaths.

The link is the predominance in the population. If Omicron is 51% of all national Covid cases now, and there are on a given day 1300 deaths across the country (like the count today), then that would be 51% Omicron and about 650 deaths.

No one competent has said there are no Omicron deaths. At 51% predominance you could try to make a case for all 1300 being delta, but when you get to 90+% Omicron predominance and, say, 1000 deaths, then all clearly were Omicron.

Russia had over 900 Covid deaths today. Their Omicron predominance is estimated at about 36% last I looked.

Owen you are making an egregious logical fallacy. Your statement is the same as saying that if 1300 people died of respiratory problems and 51% of the total population had colds that 650 of the deaths were from colds... You should try to get the moderators to delete your post because it is embarrassingly stupid.

You are letting this leftist nonsense turn you into a terrified idiot.

But I specifically noted 51% left too much room for delta to maneuver. It’s when you get north of 90% that the death count becomes inescapable.

You are engaging in a logical fallacy that completely invalidates any reasoning that you may have tried to apply. Suppose a population is infected with two pathogens... one infecting 90% of the population and one infecting 10%... you cannot make the assumption that 90% of the deaths are from the pathogen that is infecting more of the population. 90% of the total deaths could easily be from the pathogen with the lower infection rate.

“90% of the total deaths could easily be from the pathogen with the lower infection rate.”

This is not true.

It could be. Not easily.

Probabilities are clear. If 90+% (note the +) are from one pathogen then most deaths likely are, too. Why would you fight the odds?

Owen, if you have two pathogens, the one with the lower infection rate could easily be the more deadly of the two and be responsible for all of the deaths. There is something seriously wrong with your thought process. Let me state it for you another way. If you have a group where 5% have Ebola and 95% have the common cold, are you going to claim that the “probabilities are clear” and that 95% the deaths came from the common cold? You are engaging in an egregious logical fallacy, if you continue people will lose all confidence in everything that you say.

Ebola would not register as a Covid type. These are Covid deaths being counted.

I don’t know why there has evolved a desperate desire to believe Omicron has 0 deaths, but it’s absurd.

NY has exploded their case count. Far above even Spring 2020. They are testing a lot more for sure and that’s likely why, but the overall point is those cases are mostly Omicron.

Their deaths have increased. Nowhere near the nursing homes disasters of last Spring, but they are floating upwards at 100 dead/day, roughly 8X more than pre Omicron July numbers. These are not 100 dead to a delta variant now a tiny subordinate (and a subordinate that has residual vax resistance). If deaths had been constant from July, you could make that case. You can’t amid an Omicron case explosion and sharp death increase. The odds are simply against you.

Now, as was true with the August Delta arrival, the measurements can’t be confident as to attribution of increased death cause -— Delta or Vax/Natural fade from Spring. You can still make the case the 8X increase is immunity erosion vs Omicron. But what deaths there are, with Omicron becoming far more than 50% dominant — you’re reaching for some bizarre Omicron-zero agenda to expect that increase to be entirely Delta.
