Perhaps one of the biggest strategic errors in US foreign policy was allowing Castro to remain in power thereby giving Communism a permanent base in the Western hemisphere.

From the end of WW2 we have been too kind and too hesitant

We should have listened to MacArthur and LeMay and there would
be no Comunist China . No Korean War , No Vietnam War
No Communist Cuba
We have entrusted out collective fates to ninnies and sissies.

Had Nixon been elected in 1960, Castro would have gone the way of Jacobo Arbenz.

My very first job was as a financial analyst in Miami. Two of the executives were Bay of Pigs Veterans who felt betrayed for the rest of their lives by the playboy son of Boston fixer/grifter.
