“My big burly uncle had all of his teeth capped without novacaine simply because he hated needles”

I know people that never use novacaine for dental work. The only thing I can figure is their nerves are wired differently than mine. I tried once when getting a small cavity filled but just couldn’t get through it. Had them stop and shoot me up.

Concerning the needles, I bet your uncle is close to 60 or older. I say this because when I was kid every time I was taken to the doctor I was giving an injection, usually penicillin or terramycin, if not either of those you got a shot B-12.

It was quite the traumatic experience as a kid. In my early years, the syringe and needles were huge and reused. They actually sharpened the needles before single use throw-away syringes came about. I believe that is the reason so many in my generation have a fear of needles. I learned in my late teens that “shots” were actually very effective at knocking out whatever was ailing you and worth the brief bit of pain. Plus, the throw-away needles had a much smaller and sharper needle that didn’t hurt near as bad.
