The IEA is calling on China and India to put their climate pledges into action.
The agency argues that there is a disconnect between the commitments made by both countries, and their continued reliance on coal energy.
Global power generation from coal is expected to jump by nine percent in 2021 to a new high.

The International Energy Agency has called on China and India to reduce coal power generation and put their climate pledges into action, describing both countries as “holding the key to future coal demand”. The world’s two largest coal producers – with economies that account for nearly three billion people combined – are currently responsible for two-thirds of coal demand

Both countries were heavily criticised last month for watering down coal pledges at the COP26 climate summit, altering the phrasing of agreed plans to cut coal consumption from “phase out” to “phase down” over the next two decades.
The energy agency argues there is a disconnect between the commitments made by both countries, and their continued reliance on coal energy.

Steep hikes in natural gas prices have also increased demand for coal power by making it more cost-competitive.
Overall coal demand worldwide, including uses beyond power generation such as cement and steel production, is also forecast to grow by six percent in 2021.
...
More than half of global coal-fired electricity generation takes place in China, where coal power is expected to grow by nine percent in 2021 despite a deceleration at the end of the year.
In India, it is forecast to grow by 12 percent.
This would set new all-time highs in both countries

They must have been very naughty to have so much coal.
Unintended catastrophic environmental consequences of the Green New Deal, coming right up.
Yeah, and China is planning to build 24-43 new coal-fired power plants and 18 new blast furnaces....
Further more: Coal-fired power accounts for roughly 60% of China’s total electricity generation. Over the first three quarters of 2021, China’s power generation expanded by 11% on the year, but power consumption grew by 13% as heavy industry and manufacturers cranked up output as coronavirus pandemic restrictions eased.
Someone is smoking crack me’thinks.
Does Greta sternly lecture the Communists in China over this?
Didn’t think so.
Makes more sense than wind and sunshine.
They’ll survive.
Using what’s available and throwing the Global Warming Nuts on the fire with the coal
I wish she told Xi, “How dare you!” and wag her finger at him.
Both these countries recognize that improvements in the standard of living for the citizens comes from the use of electricity to pump runing water, provide energy to cook, etc.
Wind and solar will never come close to providing the energy to obtain those goals for 2-3 billion people.
I wish she told Xi, “How dare you!” and wag her finger at him.
Meanwhile while India and China belch coal fumes, California has just outlawed gasoline lawn mowers and hedge trimmers. There is very little common sense on this planet anymore.
Australia makes tens of billions annually selling the stuff to China/India & the rest of Asia, while shutting down its own coal-fired power plants and replacing them (unsuccessfully) with Chinese solar panels and wind turbines!
15 Dec: Daily Mail UK: Turbines made in China for Australia’s biggest wind farm have CRACKS in them sparking outrage they weren’t made locally to better standards
Cracks discovered in 19 Chinese-made wind turbines at Stockyard Hill wind farm
Defects were discovered when union members inspected the giant machines
Stockyard Hill management said the operations of the turbines not affected
By PETER VINCENT
Nineteen of 40 turbines inspected at the Stockyard Hill wind farm, in Victoria’s central highlands, are defective and will take months to fix, according to the Australian Manufacturing Worker’s Union.
Another 109 turbines were yet to be inspected and it was feared they could also be damaged...
The massive wind farm, which is Australia’s biggest, was operating for less than five months...
The project was started by Windpower Australia, then sold to Origin Energy, which sold it to Xinjiang Goldwind, a Chinese-owned company, for $110 million.
Goldwind, which owns or operates nine wind and solar farms in Australia, is part of Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology Co, the world’s biggest wind turbine manufacturer, based in Beijing.
Goldwind is listed on the Hong Kong and Shenzhen stock exchanges, but 40 per cent of its top 10 investors are owned by the ruling Chinese Communist Party...
The union found the damage, which is on the ‘top cover housing key mechanics’ behind the blades, when it inspected the turbines.
It claims repairs will take up to 76 weeks ‘and they still haven’t inspected all of the towers’...

manmade gloBULL warming is the biggest “scientific” scam of all.
Funny
Then she'd say "This tour is a strange on. No hotels, no cars going by on the other side of the highway. No offense but this area is so isolated, so desolate, so forbidding out here. What do you call it?"
Guard: "You're about to call it 'home.' For fifty years."
I’m not surprised. California IS the land of Fruits and Nuts.
Where the heck is our scold, Gretta Tunberg? How dare they! (Damn! She still makes me angry.)
It takes a lot of energy to produce those stupid solar panels and lithium mining equipment.
I remember traveling in China in the 90s and seeing coal fired trains. Bet they still have them today. Never understood why China was exempted from so-called climate change guidelines
Coal is replacing wood and dung. The net impact is actually positive. North America has 30% more trees than 100 years ago because we quit burning trees.
Surprise, surprise, surprise…
Hopefully the surprise and shock at the IEA doesn’t trigger their folks or the participants at the COP whatever meeting…
