WASHINGTON, Dec 19 (Reuters) - U.S. health officials urged Americans on Sunday to get booster shots, wear masks and be careful if they travel over the winter holidays, with the Omicron variant raging across the world and likely to take over as the dominant strain in the United States.
The government is gearing up for the next phase of battle in a two-year fight against a virus that has killed 800,000 and disrupted every aspect of daily life.
Dr. Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health, told CBS' "Face the Nation" that the number of Omicron cases will go up steeply in the next two weeks.

"A big message for today is if you've had vaccines and a booster, you're very well protected against Omicron causing you severe disease. So, anybody listening to this who's in that 60% of Americans who are eligible for a booster but haven't yet gotten one: This is the week to do it. Do not wait," he said.
Omicron is multiplying rapidly, making COVID-19 vaccinations and booster shots more crucial than ever, chief White House medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci said on Sunday. Currently 27% of U.S. residents have not gotten even a single dose of vaccine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
"It is just, you know, raging through the world," Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Vax the folks who aren’t yet vaxxed if they want it, leave the rest alone - especially those least in danger from any flu or virus that’s going around each year. Things have to run their course and life goes on.
If the omicron virus only causes mild reactions and no deaths, why not do nothing and let it play out??
As a bonus, everyone who does get omicron adds to the natural immunity pool, and that’s good!!
I will get the booster if, and only if, the NVAX (or any similar) protein subunit vaccine is approved.
I have infinite patience and complete "immunity" to any hectoring from any elected official.

The NHL Exec. said none of the shots “protect you” they just lessen the risk of getting it. However does appear many with the shots are getting it anyway.

Emphasizing that I'm not medically trained, vitamin D3 deficiency may be more of a problem in the states than in South Africa, where I understand it's summer.
Also, false positives aside, testing positive on CV19 test may mean that healthy asymptomatic natural herd immunity is working in my non-medical opinion. Corrections welcome.
Disturbingly, a Nobel Prize laureate noted awhile back that experimental CV19 mRNA (my wording) creates variants.

Noting that you can find vitamin D deficient people in both Florida and Texas, if you live above latitude 37°N in wintery months from October, the southern border of Kansas for example, medical experts are pointing out that your skin won't produce enough vitamin D3 whatever you do outside. So you might want consider dietary vitamin D3 dietary supplements. If you have blood pressure issues ask your trusted medical doctor about vitamin K2 to balance the D3.
Regarding sunlight D3 in general, the rule of thumb from the Vitamin D - The Sunshine Vitamin link above is that if your shadow is longer than you are tall (my words), then you're not producing enough D3.
On the other hand, not only is overexposure to sunlight is a cancer concern, but sunscreens block sunlight needed to make D3. Again, consult with trusted MD about D3 supplement.
I still question if medical history might have turned out better if vitamin D3 had been discovered before vaccines were.
