Your plate glass moving in and out brings to mind my experience in late one August in Champaign, Illinois. I was just leaving our library which was in the southwest corner of our building complex. I believe it was because of threatening weather. The south side of the building had a row of offices south of the hall way, but one could see the fairly large windows through the open office doors. I saw what you described as the plate-glass moving in and out. There was no damage where I was but we had some glass breakage in very large windows in a north-south hallway separating two buildings in our complex and some window damage among cars parked close to our building from gravel blowing off of our flat roof. A building under construction about a block east of us had their unsecured air conditioning units blown off of their roof, but little other damage seemed to be recorded. Latter I explored and found a straight line path of about 10 corn rows off a few miles to the west. It was likely an F1 or less.

Thanks, Folks, for the great information!

The Heat Wave of the 1930’s has been “normalized” away in order for recent “Global Warming” to appear amplified, and I wondered if the Tornado data might have received the same treatment.

I guess the old dictum, “compared to what”, continues to be pertinent when evaluating meteorological stories, especially those of the Chicken Little variety.

“The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary.”

― H.L. Mencken

At present, as we post, President Xi in China is doing just what Menken suggests.

President Xi is in the act of destroying business and industry as they presently exist in a manner that is too capitalistic to be palatable by the CCP.

There is going to be terrible upheaval and chaos in China as people, common people, lose jobs and wages and real estate investments and life as they know it. The prosperity and relative freedom will be gone. The answer is Chinese Socialism

The people will be glad to flee to the safety and security and groceries of the China Socialism offered by Xi and the CCP

Much like the verse that is quoted often, “... all things work together for good to them that love God, ... Romans 8:38

Everything that happens isn’t good. God’s overall plan of events working together is good.

Great story! Thanks! Tornadoes are crazy. I can see why they fascinate so many people.

I didn't mention forecasting now being better because obviously there was no weather forecasting as is currently done in 1896 (Farmer's Almanac et al notwithstanding...). My point was that for people to claim this unprecedented and due to climate change and will be a new norm, is just silly.

"The latest estimates place the death count from last week’s tornado event at 88, a figure that may still rise. The number of fatalities indicates tragedy without very much modern precedent, a stark deviation from recent tornado outbreaks in which there was considerably less loss of life." - Washington Post - 12/17/2021

Tornado fatalities by year.

2021 - 104 to date

2020 - 76

2019 - 41

2018 - 10

2017 - 35

2016 - 18

2015 - 36

2014 - 47

2013 - 55

2012 - 68

2011 - 553

2010 - 45

2009 - 21

2008 -126
