Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott announced on Friday that the construction of the state’s border wall has begun.

“Texas has officially started building its own border wall,” Abbott tweeted.

“Biden allows open border policies and refuses to enforce laws passed by Congress to secure the border and enforce immigration laws,” The governor added. “Texas is stepping up to do the federal government’s job.”

Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin posted pictures of the first panels on Friday.

“Texas has officially started building its own border wall. The first wall panels have gone up in Starr County in the RGV. State land, state money. This particular contractor was building Trump’s wall until Biden cancelled them. Now they build for @GregAbbott_TX,” Melugin tweeted.

“Clinton/Bush/Obama judge in 3..2..1.”

The next level of appeal for Texas will be the Conservative Fifth Circuit. No Ninth Circus involvement, No Hawaiian judges...

Also, they may be stinging so bad from the epically bad polling on the border issue, that they will pull in their horns through the mid-terms.

"They could run a temporary barbed wire wall"

Texas actually has a much bigger program to do that (as part of Operation Lone Star), then I was aware of, before you mentioned it.

Two miles of the fencing (out of the 6 emplaced so far) has been put up in the past two weeks in rural Starr County east of Rio Grande City. Agreements have been signed for about 63 more miles, and almost 200 more miles are in negotiation. Additionally, they have a surge capability to emplace several miles worth within hours, in case of "caravan" style assaults.

This is a serious Program.

Only the states can and will defend the states.

The federal government under Resident Biden will not.

FedGov is dysfunctional and in disarray. Horrific mis-management at best, intentional sabotage at worst.

Gov Abbott was on the Tucker Carlson Show on Fox, and stated that about 100 miles have already been donated by private landowners, for Texas to build Border Wall (in addition to State land), but he did not say where. I’d guess more up toward Laredo, than in the RGV.

Separately, the Governor has stated that they are planning a Program of “hundreds of miles”.

One billionaire (Mellon) has donated $53 million toward the effort.

According to the Governor, they are already running over 100 yards per day.

First day on the job.

“If a Democrat ever ends up governor of Texas again it is all over.”

Absolutely.

On the other hand, this Program seems to be structured to do the Lion’s share of the high priority barrier within the next 4 year Governor’s term.

Its a clear choice on Border security.

OK, the feds will not deport nor stop the invaders. Texas DPS is arresting them and charging tresspassing. Assuming they get a jail sentence, what happens after they serve their terms? The feds still will not deport them.

“A mile every 17 days....... at 300 ft per day.”

About two miles per month.

About how the Trump Program started.

Land acquisition was the long pole in the tent for the Trump Program, but the Texas Program will focus on the land for which they have ready access - State land and donated private land.

I wonder how much State land there is, in places suitable for the Border wall?

The Governor says they have about 100 miles of private land identified from willing donors.

It looks like there is enough land, and enough money allocated, to double or quadruple the initial pace, this fiscal year.
