Ok... I am being serious here.. why the HELL does China need Taiwan? or Russia need Ukraine? Both are fine how they are, they gain nothing from war but dead bodies.

The CCP feels existentially threatened by the example of Chinese people living in freedom. The idea might take root that Chinese people do not need an all-powerful party, a kleptocratic elite and the god king emperor Xi.
China simply claims Taiwan is part of China...so what would be the point. As for Ukraine...I can hear Putin..."I need another piece of Ukraine why?".
As far as Crimea...it should have never been "given" away in the first place.
When it comes to Taiwan, let’s look at things from the ChiCom point of view. (I’m NOT saying that view is correct.)
For a century the West bullied China. For example, the UK took Hong Kong just because it could. Other nations carved out pieces of China as well. Then there were the Opium Wars.
Now finally China is ready to take its rightful place in the world. But there is still one humiliation remaining: Taiwan. As a rough analogy, suppose after the War of 1812 the British kept Long Island, and populated it with loyalists. Eventually the United States would have had enough, and invaded.
OK... it is not the same situation. Russia does not want Ukraine, at least not in the near future -- it will be too costly to maintain, Ukrainian economy has been wiped out.
But China does need Taiwan.
China is heading for trouble too... as the Western economies collapse China production will lose its markets. Eventually they will recover and find markets elsewhere, but hard times are certain. Thus, China will be moving toward a more fascist state too, and to maintain social cohesion successful "liberation" of Taiwan would be very valuable. And of course Taiwan's economy (chip production!) would be a nice bonus too.
A quick victorious war to solve internal problems.
And perhaps no war at all, the rumors are that Biden got his 10% already.
