The Chicago police chief who arrested Jussie Smollett for staging a race-baiting attack on himself said Friday that he would have let the actor go free if he’d just apologized and admitted that he was lying early on.
Eddie Johnson, head of the Chicago Police Department in 2019, wouldn’t have pursued charges against the “Empire” actor if he’d simply admitted he’d made it all up, he told “Morning in America.”

Chicago needs help. This was December of the same year. Link is in the Smollet article.
But because he refused to admit it was a hoax, Chicago PD wasted a huge number of hours investigating this. He could have headed all that off.
Does Adam Schiff and Hillary Clinton, James Comey, Peter Strozk, Nellie Orr, and Jake Sullivan, get the same free pass if they just apologize? There is no difference in conduct.
Smollets only crime was not using two FBI agents to beat him up, put a noose around his neck, and pour bleach on him.
“...he told “Morning in America.”
Was Robin Roberts there? The one who ate up Smoelltt’s lie with a spoon, and fawned over him on-air like there was tomorrow? Was Robin there??
I use quotation marks around “lynching” because the bill broadened the definition to include any person in a protected class who is assaulted in any way by two or more people (not in a protected class?). Rand Paul voted no, at least to one version, saying that it could apply to someone who caused a “bruise” to another person. He was mocked for this.
I found an article about the new law with about 100 comments. Almost everyone thought that the definition of “lynching” in the bill was the traditional one: a murder, especially by hanging of a person by a mob without due process. Instead, lynching has the new legal definition below.
After the Jussie Smollett faked incident, the Senate added part 2 as follows:
(1) OFFENSES INVOLVING ACTUAL OR PERCEIVED RACE, COLOR, RELIGION, OR NATIONAL ORIGIN. —If 2 or more persons willfully cause bodily injury to any other person, because of the actual or perceived race, color, religion, or national origin of any person—
(2) OFFENSES INVOLVING ACTUAL OR PERCEIVED RELIGION, NATIONAL ORIGIN, GENDER, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, GENDER IDENTITY, OR DISABILITY.— “(A) IN GENERAL.—If 2 or more persons, in any circumstance described in subparagraph (B), willfully cause bodily injury to any other person because of the actual or perceived religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability of any person—
You mean I could have just apologized for making an illegal right turn at a traffic light in Chicago? If only I had known!
Since it worked so well for you, you could have worked your way up to larceny, embezzlement, extortion and maybe armed robbery. And then topped out with a race hoax.
I love how the Chief said Smollett “didn’t kill anybody. He didn’t blow up a building.” Are those the only two things he arrests people for anymore?
The problem is he incited people and other people were hurt. It is the flip side of “To Kill a Mockingbird”.
Maybe someday, someone will write a novel about the damage caused to an innocent white person caused by false charges of racism and pre-conceived notions of guilt based on race.
There is nothing new under the sun.
You seem to think that no cop anywhere has any discretion on any topic.
You are clinically delusional if you really think that way.
Get help.
Jussie Smollett was making $100,000 an episode on his tv show but wanted more money and a bigger role. He did not care who was harmed by his actions. He needs to be in jail a long long time.
