Senate GOP predicts they'll have 10 votes for debt deal
The Hill ^ | 12/07/2021 | JORDAIN CARNEY

Top Senate Republicans are predicting that they'll get enough GOP support to help advance a deal on the debt ceiling, as GOP Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) pitches his caucus on the agreement.

Under the deal, the House and Senate will first need to pass a bill that sets up a subsequent one-time simple-majority vote to raise the debt ceiling.

Though Democrats would then be able to raise the debt ceiling on their own, they would still need 10 GOP votes to advance the initial legislation that lays out how the debt ceiling vote will work.

I’d like to see a wholesale removal of representatives with no chance to re-run and a new crop of critters across the board. Oh, and repeal the God forsaken 17th amendment already.

It will be the usual suspects with a few R’s in open condemnation but the rest will sit back and quietly slap their backs with atta-boys! The conservative base will again be insulted and infuriated and the Republican Party Pukes even on FR will tell us how we HAVE to support the Republicans in 2022 or the world will end, how we are democrats, how we are purist, one issue voters, disloyal-which is rich coming from this bunch of eunuchs after their behavior with Trump, etc... the usual GOP BS...

I don’t understand the story. It says a deal was reached. What did the GOP get in this deal?

Didn’t Mitch say that the Dems were on their own raising the debt ceiling after Schumer was so ungrateful after they helped him the first time? It’s a mistake to give Dems an inch.

“What did the GOP get in this deal?”

We get to say we’re against the deal all day long after we vote to make it possible. We won’t mention the second part.

People should stop paying the slightest attention to the debt ceiling.

America is not going to refuse to pay the debt on spending it has already approved which would raise the payments on all govt debt and sink the country.

Ignore this meaningless exercise and stop wasting energy on it.

That sounds like the formula that got Clinton and 0bama elected.
