The parents of a Michigan teen accused of killing four classmates with a gun his mom and dad bought for him have pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter charges.
Jennifer and James Crumbley each face four counts of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the Tuesday rampage blamed on their 15-year-old son, Ethan. Each count is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

It appears there is no state law requiring that parents restrict access to firearms. The fact that charges were filed so quickly seems political.
The parents did themselves no favors by seeming to flee when charges were filed.
One could argue that the school is equally responsible as they didn’t send the kid home with the parents.
“What is it you claim the parents “KNEW”? Did they know who would be killed? Did they know how many would be shot? Did they know why some people would be shot? What did the parents know that the school did not know?”
Well he left that note on his desk with a picture of a gun saying he couldnot get out of his head killing people. The school showed his parents.
The parents had the obligation to take away all the guns.
Understand, I read the law (non lawyer) so there are different details which factor into the situation.
Good point on the distinction of rifle vs handgun.
“The parents buying a pistol for a 15-year-old is unconscionable.”
Certainly buying one for THIS 15 yr old is. The parents are just as complicit as their kid. We’ll hear more but indications are they are overly permissive. Indulging a kid that they screwed up. The school admin had full knowledge of what was going on here and they are responsible for what happened.
How so? This’d be the first one I ever heard of where the first “sign” and shooting are within hours of each other.
Usually you have “signs” developing over months, hence it’s no surprise the parents didn’t take immediate and drastic action.
Or it implies that the parents think the school was making a mountain over a molehill, which they were in that case.
See #36. Too much happened to not lock him down and take away the guns. That alone convicts them to me if it turns out accurate.
Major stretch
Where did you here of the note?
The trustworthy media?
If the parents had taken the gun and the kid got another gun somewhere and killed people, would the parents still be guilty of involuntary manslaughter? If the kid used a borrowed car to run people down with it, would the parents still be guilty of involuntary manslaughter?
What about the school administrators? The involuntary manslaughter statute does not only apply to parents. The school personnel didn't KNOW the kid had a gun. They also didn't KNOW that he didn't have a gun. Does the failure to search the kid's backpack relieve them of responsibility for allowing this kid at the school? How convenient for them.
Or is it the case that the school personnel didn't KNOW that the kid was going to commit murder regardless of whether he had a gun or not?
Put another way, since the school did not take steps to determine whether the kid had a gun, are they not then criminally responsible for failing to find the weapon?
Saw that. Most of those lines concern the same drawing. Freely making available is a mischaracterization. They didn’t lock the gun up is their main fault which to me, is not enough to go after them here. If so, it applies to gangbangers under 18 who have their guns at home.
Note this’d be the first such case of going after parents in this capacity. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a Soros AG and is just desirous of dropping the hammer on any non-criminal having a gun.
Frankly it’s the kid who murdered 4 students and injured others. The parents were negligent. ....Father bought the gun for his 15 yr. old son appears to be against their states law.
Can’t forget it’s the son who did the shooting....over and over and over etc. again.
“Where did you here of the note? The trustworthy media?”
The actual note is posted on the internet from various sources.
It’s wrong to charge parents for childrens’ crimes.
