Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza has responded to Alec Baldwin’s claim he ‘didn’t pull the trigger’ on the gun that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

Mendoza told Fox News Digital that guns ‘don’t just go off’. He continued, ‘So whatever needs to happen to manipulate the firearm, he did that and it was in his hands.’
The Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department has explained it is currently awaiting results from the FBI that would shed light on how the gun fired, whether it involved just pulling back the hammer, which hits the firing pin, just pulling the trigger, or both.

Modern revolvers have protection to prevent the gun from going off if something hits the hammer, for instance if you drop the gun. Perhaps the replica antique revolver did not have that protection.

Maybe Baldwin’s lawyers are angling for a reasonable doubt from a jury of non-gun-experts. IOW, just because it is very likely that he pulled the trigger, that is not certain enough, they will argue, to convict.

I never saw a revolver fire twice without the trigger mechanism advancing the cylinder...
A Colt SAA clone, like the one involved, have no hammer block or transfer bar mechanism. If you cock the gun part way (not all the way to the half cock notch) and release the hammer, the gun can fire. Doing this with the trigger held back (in some cases tied back) is called slip firing. When done rapidly with the edge of the hand instead of the thumb, it’s called fanning.

Well, the democrats’ argument is that, guns kill people, therefore, it was the gun that killed that cinematographer. Balwin, therefore, is innocent.
