Waukesha Christmas parade: Court lost transcript of Darrell Brooks bail hearing from prior incident

Waukesha suspect Darrell Brooks was released on $1,000 bail for allegedly running over an ex-girlfriend with his car just two weeks before the deadly Christmas parade rampage. The court record of that critical bail hearing is lost forever.

In Wisconsin every official court proceeding is memorialized either by a court reporter or a digital recording device. But the transcript of the hearing is permanently gone, an official told Fox News on Tuesday.

"The digital recording is damaged," she said when an attempt was made to order the Nov. 5 transcript.

Career criminal Brooks, 39, allegedly mowed down the mother of one his children with a red Ford Escape Nov. 2 — leaving a tire mark on her left leg, authorities have said.

Despite the serious charges and another pending felony case for shooting at his nephew during a fight in July 2020, a junior prosecutor recommended $1,000 cash bail for Brooks. His mother promptly posted the sum.

About two weeks later, on Nov. 21, Brooks drove the same red Ford Escape into holiday revelers, killing six and injuring 60, authorities say.

After the horrific incident, Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm announced an internal investigation into the widely panned decision to request the paltry bail amount.

“My God, that state’s government is corrupt“

Oh! It’s a government of the government, for the government, by the government. I suspect a ‘national hand’ like FBI with help from other three letter acronyms. Probably less local. The pattern has been consistent since Obama took office.

If the system is corrupt, the FBI is in on it.

Per the article there was a digital recording (only), but the file is now found to be damaged.

I’ve had audio and video files go corrupt when saving or copying to storage media. It does happen, though rarely.

What really went on here: no idea. Does it smell bad? Yes, it does.

"a junior prosecutor recommended $1,000 cash bail for Brooks."

Name?!?

"The digital recording is damaged," she said when an attempt was made to order the Nov. 5 transcript."

Did the digital recording commit suicide or was it assisted? Name?!? Check the person's bank account for recent additions.

And all report to the State. The Wisconsin DOJ took over the case within hours.

Again, completely irrelevant to the post you replied to and ignorant of the article. The issue here is that the Milwaukee court "lost" the transcript of the Milwaukee district attorney letting this murderer free on a $1,000 bond after he deliberately ran over the mother of his child. Had they done their job, or if the Milwaukee court was competent and insisted on holding this monster, this Waukesha attack would not have happened.

All I know is that your statement was wrong. You blamed the county with the victims, not Milwaukee county which let this murderer free on a $1,000 bond after he deliberately ran over the mother of his child. Either read the article before posting or simply make sure to get your facts right and not to blame the victim.

Jeez calm down. What an overreaction to an understandable mistake.

Stupid erroneous statements can become accepted as truth if they aren't immediately corrected. The people of Waukesha and their courts are the innocent victims of this mass murder. They shouldn't be libeled by negligent internet posters for Milwaukee letting this murderer go free.

Losing or destroying official records of court proceedings is serious. Doing so intentionally is a felony is most jurisdictions.

And who prosecutes crimes which are done to protect the Prosecutors?

Especially when the State AG is politically involved with the Milwaukee AG and intent on protecting him instead of investigating or prosecuting?

The State AG would investigate, presumably. The AG is up for re-election next year. I don’t know about that race, but Cook Political Report just shifted the Wisconsin governor race from Likely D to Tossup. If he loses, I doubt the statute of limitations runs before the new AG takes office.
