A person was shot and killed at a Marine Corps Recruit Depot entrance gate Friday after approaching base personnel with a knife in a hostile intent, Marine officials said.
Just before noon, a vehicle attempted to enter the base at the gate 5 entrance. Base personnel asked the person to stop the vehicle. The person then got out of the vehicle with a knife and approached the personnel.
After several warnings, the person was shot. Emergency services were called and they were later pronounced dead at the scene, said First Lt. Joshua Collins with MCRD.

I know a cute little blonde who’s a Marine and did gate security at a base. She’s the daughter-in-law of a coworker.
You’d never know she was a Marine until she starts talking about being a Marine. Then you realize that it would be best not to mess with her.
I think his preferred pronouns are was/were.
That was his “preferred pronoun”...

Where is MCRD located?
San Diego.
I was in the Navy. In boot camp we could see the Marine base. Our ‘company commander’ told us to hang our dungarees facing the Marine base. He would say that and say ‘p on the Marines.’

I just thought of this about that pronoun. Wouldn’t using “they” eventually lead to charging group rates for one person? Funeral homes could charge more for burying all of them when there’s only one corpse.
Man, even the Army isn’t that mean to our infantry..
And just as a matter of interest the standard issue guard weapon is a COLT 45 caliber pistol or an M 14 rifle with a twenty round magazine, at least it was when I was in (long, long time ago).
I guess that they think that we'll otherwise believe that it might have been an android, or maybe a department store mannikin, carrying the knife.
Also: "Knifeman" just doesn't sound as "cool" as, say, "gunman."
Regards,
One day, the boss came in and told me to hit the big red button under the counter for a drill. Within a minute, the first Air Police were crashing in with M-16s. The APs didn't know it was a drill and were fully loaded. This 19yo was duly impressed and a bit stressed. Lol…

WHO exactly is “they”??????/
Is English the birth language of this ‘reporter’???
What happened to the good old days when people used bridges and no mess to clean up.
Well, the Marines had some unkind things to say about sailors, too. ;-)
Yes, I agree with you. I have never understood nor took part in the members of the services putting each other down. When someone would say controversial things about the other services, my answer always was, “Hey, guys, we are on the same team.”
