Along with coins this Christmas, Salvation Army wants white donors to offer a "sincere apology" for their racism
Central Nova News ^

Posted on 11/24/2021 10:13:00 AM PST by TigerClaws

The Salvation Army wants its white donors to give it more than just money this Christmas season. Its leadership is also demanding they apologize for being racist.

It's part of a push by the Christian charitable organization to embrace the ideas of Black Lives Matter, an activist group working to, among other things, "dismantle white privilege" and "disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure."

The Salvation Army's Alexandria-based leadership has created an "International Social Justice Commission" which has developed and released a "resource" to educate its white donors, volunteers and employees called Let's Talk about Racism. It asserts Christianity is institutionally racist, calling for white Christians to repent and offer "a sincere apology" to blacks for being "antagonistic.. to black people or the culture, values and interests of the black community."

"Many have come to believe that we live in a post-racial society, but racism is very real for our brothers and sisters who are refused jobs and housing, denied basic rights and brutalized and oppressed simply because of the color of their skin," one lesson explains. "There is an urgent need for Christians to evaluate racist attitudes and practices in light of our faith, and to live faithfully in today’s world."

In an accompanying Study Guide on Racism, Salvation Army authors explain that all whites are racist, even if they don't realize it.

“The subtle nature of racism is such that people who are not consciously racist easily function with the privileges, empowerment and benefits of the dominant ethnicity, thus unintentionally perpetuating injustice," it says.

"Sunday school curriculum that only uses white photography and imagery" is an example given that perpetuates injustice.

"We must stop denying the existence of individual and systemic/ institutional racism. They exist, and are still at work to keep White Americans in power," the lesson says.

"These systems give privileges to white people"

Let's Talk about Racism pushes arguments identical to those of leading "Critical Race Theory" purveyors Robin DiAngelo and Henry Rogers (a.k.a. Ibram Kendi), whose work is recommended by Salvation Army authors.

DiAngelo and Rogers (Kendi) claim that any observable difference in relative behavior or accomplishment between racial groups is due to the inherent racism of whites, arguing against the traditional American concept of equal opportunity in favor of the Marxist-inspired goal of equality of outcome.

"Structural racism.. is the overarching system of racial bias across institutions and society. These systems give privileges to White people resulting in disadvantages to (blacks)," reads a Salvation Army lesson.

Proponents of "Critical Race Theory" don't believe whites, Asians or Hispanics can avoid being prejudiced against blacks. They want them to demonstrate what they call "anti-racism" in favor of blacks, helping to establish lower standards for them than they do members of other racial groups, or making cash "reparation" payments to blacks as compensation for alleged previous racism.

"Stop trying to be ‘colorblind’. While this might sound helpful, it actually ignores the God-given differences we all possess, as well as the beautiful cultures of our Black and Brown brothers and sisters," Let's Talk about Racism explains. "Instead of trying to be colorblind, try seeing the beauty in our differences, and welcome them into your homes churches and workplaces. Being colorblind also ignores the discrimination our Black and Brown brothers and sisters face and does not allow us to address racism properly."

Founded in 1865 in London, England, the Salvation Army is both a protestant Christian church and an international charitable organization. Its first "red kettle" was set up in Oakland, California in 1891.

National advisory board members include Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones, Chick-Fil-A Foundation President Rodney Bullard and charter school pioneer J.C. Huizenga.

To be clear there looks to be a problem in some of the Salvation Army
leadership, that is lending itself to charges of promoting Critical Race
Theory, as some of the stuff now appearing on their site can be
interpreted as a soft sell of the same.

I was unable to find anywhere where it says they want white donors to offer
a “sincere apology” for their racism

The evil trying to infiltrate and destroy yet another Christian Organization
doesn’t seem to have managed to get that far yet.

That doesn’t stop this attempt to pile on and eliminate all support for them
so that they disappear from sight.

I think instead, things ought to be loudly taken up with their leadership in an effort have them perhaps more carefully steer their ship, and perhaps
see if they wish to rebut these charges.

Then, if not, we might wish to share that widely, and look to forming a
New Salvation Army.

I just think it’s a bit early to decide that organization has already gone fully CRT “Woke”, and send yet another Christian organization into the ash can
of history without a fight.

It’s not like we have a great many of them to spare any more.

(Full disclosure. I was one of those white Salvation Army Donors just
yesterday. I’d prefer not to have to stop that like I had to with the Boy Scouts.)

Racism is real. The nature of it is not far removed, in my view, from what
is stated on the Salvation Army’s Website, as I copied into my last post
above.

Critical Race Theory, however, is something else entirely, and some of that may be getting slipped into their educational material.

CRT starts with the reality of racism, but winds up promoting it.

Remember who else wants those bell ringers gone.

This is one chapter in Alexandria. Please continue to give to the Salvation Army. This is a hit piece that I wish was never posted. There are tragic consequences for putting out this garbage for all to see and few to understand how to filter.

ScreenShot those words from the site if you can.

I can’t find them, and you can’t either, I suspect.

The site contains some questionable stuff, but those words just don’t
seem to be there.

Yup, that’s from the Salvation Army all right.

Doesn’t sound like they are saying Christianity is institutionally racist, and that whites should apologize for it there either, does it?

In fact, no one on this thread has managed to prove that they said that yet,
nor produce where it was published on their sites, nor produce a screen
shot proving the allegation.

I might believe that one misguided, successfully infiltrated segment of the
organization might indeed hold that view, but no-one here has managed to prove it.

From your link:

“ Of course, conversations about race in our country have evolved over the years. So it’s no surprise that I’m sometimes asked what The Salvation Army has to say about critical race theory. Yet because of this unshakable commitment to unity, my answer is always the same.

For us, racial justice has never been about one social theory or another. We’ve never taken our lead from academic papers, party platforms, political pundits, or popular polls. In our view, one simply cannot go wrong with the time-tested, thoroughly scriptural idea that everyone is made in the image of God. So while The Salvation Army may consist of people with different perspectives and experiences, we remain united in Christ. We are called to be one Army, worshiping and serving one Lord. And His love for us is the model for why and how we should love each other.

Have we made mistakes over the years? Of course, we have. Do we want to keep learning? You bet. Are we willing to discuss ways in which we might reach out even more effectively to people of color? Absolutely. Discussion is what reasonable people do.

But nothing — nothing — will ever change the fundamental spiritual commitments that have characterized The Salvation Army for more than 156 years. Our message is still based on the Bible. Our ministry is still motivated by the love of God. And our mission is still to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

We’re not on the left, and we’re not on the right. We’re where we’ve always been — following Christ. And we always will be.”

~~~~~~~
How many of you still want to cancel the Salvation Army without an investigation, even? Shame on you.
@thecodont - Thank you for your post.
I have read the PDF. Twice.
I’m not happy with all of it, BUT…
It still can’t find where it says Christianity is inherently racist and whites should apologize for it.
If it’s there, screen shot it.
This is appalling. If this is true, the (formerly great) Salvation Army will never get another cent from me.
OMG. I'm appalled the Salvation Army really has been infiltrated by communists (per your link in #211).
I'm DONE forever with the Salvation Army. Plenty of other decent charities to give to.
I did not find any of this on the Salvation Army's website - - I think this news source is making a lot of assumptions.
I didn't believe it either, until I saw it for myself on the Salvation Army's website (see link below). It's real. Sadly.
Communists are infiltrating everything now.
https://www.salvationarmy.org/isjc/2021-cry-4-justice.
NO MORE money to the Salvation Army from me.
Is it expressly stated that they believe Christianity is inherently racist? I don't see that specific statement in the main pdf, I have not looked at the study guide yet, but intend to. I doubt it is expressly stated there either, that would be just too overt. However...
Stuff like this is:
The Salvation Army will seek to influence governments, businesses, civil society and other faith communities to:
• Pursue goals of racial and economic justice. This should include efforts to achieve fair working conditions, adequate income, safe and secure housing, educational opportunities that will enhance life, and health care that is accessible irrespective of ethnicity.
• Be aware of its responsibility to promote racial justice and ethnic diversity in private and public sectors of life.
It's the racial and economic justice stuff that gets me. That is simply code for racism expressed in a different direction (socialism/marxism really) - they are blaming whitey and if you don't see it, you're blind.
