I can drive from iowa to Colorado and stop twice for gas.
A trip like that would be impossible with an electric car
That's the point, to limit your mobility.
They will have to develop more efficient energy storage and sources to make such travel viable. Someone is working on it. I’m not so concerned about environmental issues, and believe the earth to be capable of sustaining/providing much more energy. Cars and trucks, though, are noisy alternatives to what is possible with nuclear and quantum physics.

A Tesla S can make stopping once to ‘refuel’.
I can pull an 9000lb travel trailer with my truck for 400 miles and fill up 2x (15 minutes per stop) . Show me how I can do that and how I can afford that and only stop for 30 minutes.
Des Moines to Denver is about ~670 miles. There are plenty of superchargers along the interstate to Denver. The longer range S model has a range of 375 miles with a 100% charge. That is with ideal conditions. Recharging to 80% provides 300 miles. So with ideal conditions 2 stops is possible(no speeding). Winter time driving, forget about it..
