Virginia Republicans wrestled away control of the Virginia House of Delegates to take away the Democrats’ 55-45 majority held since 2019.

In Tuesday’s close election that saw Republicans sweep all three statewide races, Republicans also won back at least six seats in the Commonwealth’s lower chamber, resulting in a one-person majority for Republicans, according to data from the Virginia Public Access Project (VPAP).

The presence of the TRAN in the House should help in many House races in other parts of the state ...

TRAN is a net gain for us

Wow, I didn’t know that. And what would happen if the GOP somehow end up with only 51 HoD seats, would the Lt. Gov. be permitted to break the 70-all tie?

There is no tie-breaking mechanism in the HoD. Just the Senate.

The Senate is 21-19, but there are three rural democrats who sometimes break with the party.

A 20-20 tie in the Senate is broken by the Lt. Gov.

The GOP will have 52-48 in the HoD, so there is no need to break a tie there.

Come now. You know the rules. When Republicans are in power, they change rules so the ensure they are hamstrung from winning at all. It’sT IS THE GOP SOP. It’s done this way so you can pay them lots of money for campaign contributions. We will get them after the election is the mantra.

It’s been the same way every single time. I’ve seen it over and over again here on Free Republic since Clinton.

Lt. Gov. Sears breaks the tie.

Well, that there's good news. So the exercise at this point is to work the three "conservative" democrats to get at least one of them to come on over to the "right" side and if it is a tie, then the (R) Lt. Gov breaks the tie. Nice to have three "targets" to work on.

America has completely rejected Liberalism, but they also rejected Trump personally. This is more apparent than ever now.

Well, aren’t we feeling our oats now. Youngkin won by 2%. 70k votes. Hardly a mandate election or wave.

I will agree, though, that a lot of weak and stupid GOP voters have rejected Trump. I hope they enjoy having their daughters raped in high school bathrooms. The young girls don’t deserve that but their idiot parents do for supporting marxist democrats who burn our cities.

What I mean is, hypothetically, if there is a 51R-49D HoD and a 21D-19R Senate, and Gov. Younkin appoints a Justice to fill a vacancy, what would happen if the joint session resulted in a 70-70 tie? I know that the Lt. Gov. Sears will be the President of the VA Senate and only will get to break ties there, not in the HoD, but woud she be able to break ties when the Senate is in a joint vote with the HoD? My gut tells me that the answer is “no,” but I want to make sure.

Now that Trump is no longer on the ballot, the people are flooding back to us to droves, with us running on Trumps issues without the baggage of Trumps personal failings.

You know where you can stick it?

Dear Republicans,

Trump is the Republican party. Unless you change and embrace MAGA and build on that the Republican party is doomed.

I think election integrity has to be a front burner item for the rest of all politics.

Just don’t roll over and die. That’s all.

We have to:

Register voters

Educate voters

Have good candidates

Support the elected official we have

Ensure election integrity and

Get out the vote.

All these things. What we may not do is bitterly assert that there is no hope and quit.

I am not entirely sure there, but I think the answer is no. The executive doesn’t have a say in the judicial elections in VA.

Unlike the Democrats, the Republicans have added to their “Bench”. This gentleman from Virginia looks to have one hell of a bright future.

Two things puzzled me in the advertising. What was this about the FBI at the end of the ad scorching McK for saying parents shouldn’t tell public schools what to teach? The other is our new governor’s statement he would spend large amounts of money on schools, but eliminate some taxes and apparently nothing about raising any others. How will he do that?

In short, undo everything Democrats did the last few years.

Sorta like Buck Fiden did with President Trump's best effort? But in reverse.

The point I was trying to make is that you can embrace MAGA and everything that Trump stood for without embracing Trump personally.

Which in my opinion is what just happened in Virginia.

Take Trumps platform, but keep Trump himself at arms length. Too many suburban moms were turned off not by Trumps policies but by him personally.

Yep. They did. People here don't want to hear it but it looks to be true. They embraced "Trumpism without Trump."

And this is why I'm not going to support his bid for re-election in 2024. Of course, if he gets the nomination, I'll vote for him, but I really hope he doesn't run. He had his shot.

I want someone younger and more disciplined to carry the MAGA banner. Youngkin proved that you can assemble a winning coalition of MAGA and moderate suburbanites.

Trump, thankfully, stayed on the sidelines. Last night's victorious Republicans should send Jack Dorsey a thank-you card for keeping Trump off Twitter and forcing the Democrats to campaign on their own failed policies instead of mean tweets.
