The public’s trust in news outlets is among the lowest in the free world, a trend that has spiraled downward for years and appears to continue to do so.
Regardless if it is trust in legacy or alternative media, the decline since President Joe Biden took office has registered in double digits, according to the latest I&I/TIPP Media Trust Index shared with Secrets.
In the I&I/TIPP survey, just 38% trusted establishment media, such as the Washington Post. And only 29% said it trusted alternative news sources, including conservative outlets.
Those numbers aren’t good. "Trust in media is in free fall," said the survey.

Admitting the election was stolen and that Climate Change is a scam would help restore some credibility. I’m not holding my breath.
When there isn’t even an attempt at appearing unbiased and non-partisan by any news outlet then why should there be trust in the media? You either get the right wing spin or the left wing spin, depending on what channel you’re watching, but it’s still spin.
[Trust of US media in ‘free fall,’ lowest in world]
Well, they’ve been like North Korea’s “News” for years, so...
It’s good that people are waking up, but how many who don’t trust the media and want the media defunded are still pouring money into their coffers with their TV subscriptions?
Haven’t subscribed to cable for two years.
I see the issue right there in the first sentence -‘ The public’s trust in news outlets is among….’. It’s propaganda not news. Now it’s easy to figure out.
Suggested actions for enhanced Trust in Media, both Traditional and Alternative:
Be professional. Follow the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) code of ethics.
Focus solely on reporting the news and hard facts rather than shaping a narrative.
Do not suppress or spike stories that do not fit preconceived narratives. Report all the news, regardless if it furthers an editorial agenda.
Try to minimize personal bias—separate journalism from personal political views. When you wear the journalist hat, you must give your readers or viewers unfiltered factual information.
Generally speaking, lean towards more transparency than less. Don’t hide behind anonymous sources.
Tell the whole story. Tell the beginning, the middle, and the end, and don’t start from the middle.
Don’t underestimate the intelligence of your readers or viewers.
Periodically introspect and develop best practices.
And last but not least, don’t ever invent stories. It is malpractice of the worst kind.
Couldn't happen to a nicer group of Guys and Gals!
Let's Go Brandon and Mainstream Media!
Part of it is the conviction taught in J-school that journalists have some sort of Philosopher’s Stone that only they can use that turns crap into truth. Another part is that they say so in public. And apparently 38% of the public force-fed the crap that results believe it too.
Very nice list.
But our media is the best in the world at spewing left wing propaganda 🤪
“Brought to you by Phizer”. Combine that with leftist shills, it’s not hard to figure out.
I always thought it was “There is no news in Pravda and no truth in Isvestia.”
Trust in government propaganda programming?
Turning the nation into useful idiots that will obey government orders that are designed to destroy humanity.
I think you're right and I had it bass ackwards.
What does surprise me is the management and ownership don't clean this mess up. Hard to make money when you alienate more than half your audience.
