And this was a bench trial not a jury trial?


The legal system for juveniles works very differently than the one for adults. Each state works differently, but the whole concept is to ‘cure’ rather than punish. Each state also has different cut-off ages for certifying juveniles as adults, depending on the seriousness of the crimes they are charged with.

I’ve never heard of (which means nothing of course) of juvenile court trials involving juries. Everything takes place behind closed doors.
