Alec Baldwin fatally shot a cinematographer and injured a director during a tragic accident when a prop gun discharged on the New Mexico movie set of the film “Rust,” authorities said.
The filming location at Bonanza Creek Ranch in Sante Fe was sent into lockdown and production was halted following the accidental double shooting at around 2 p.m.
“There was an accident today on the New Mexico set of ‘Rust’ involving the misfire of a prop gun with blanks,” a production spokesperson told Deadline.
The Western drama’s director of photography, Halyna Hutchins, 42, and its director, Joel Souza, 48, were struck in the incident, according to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office.

yeah, I 2nd that.
Seriously, not letting Democrats have guns would reduce gun violence in America by 90%. I am not joking.
Remember he’s the guy who said to stone Henry Hyde to death and kill his family because he Hyde supported the Clinton impeachment.
Will Baldwin get charged with manslaughter? Probably not.
I offed a copperhead with a blank at Camp Lejeune. Up close a blank round is powerful.
Let’s see him tried for manslaughter. Why the hell would anyone point a gun at another and shoot like that?
1. Prop guns are supposed to be incapable of chambering a live round.
2. The weapons men are supposed to inspect and prepare the weapons before the shoot.
3.How is it likely that he had his weapon pointed directly at the cinematographer (and the director) when he pulled the trigger?
It’s like I’ve always told my children and grandchildren, if you’re ever in a situation where there is gun and a child who has no respect for firearms, LEAVE! This putz obviously has no clue about gun safety or this tragedy wouldn’t have happened.
A good prosecutor would put all his rage and rantings caught on video together as a montage for trial....I’m sure it would be effective.
Per your #3, quite likely if they were filming Baldwin shooting a person from behind the target.
I don’t understand this. The article mentions a projectile. What kind of projectile would a prop gun fire? And why would a prop gun need a projectile in the first place?
Or did someone screw up and hand Baldwin a real gun?
I think he was supposed to do a scene where the bullet went to the camera - there are many scenes where you see the gun pointed at ‘you’ (the camera) and a shot if fired.
I read there are supposed to be FOUR separate checks on a gun that is to be firing blanks as a result of what happened to Brandon Lee.
Because it’s in the script?
Because it’s in the script?
It's 2021. How is it that a Hollywood production crew can't safely film a firearm scene in a movie where EVERYTHING is fake?
The five rules of firearms safety:
1. Don't ever let the government take your guns.
2. All guns are always loaded.
3. Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
4. Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
5. Identify your target (and what is behind it).
The front page of the ny post is already calling it a “faulty prop”.
A little early considering detectives are still investigating isn’t it?
I read an interview with a prop guy that said that you never point the fun at anybody, even if it’s a prop gun. They are suppose to use camera angles to make it look real. Or, if it’s a shot fired at the camera, there is not a human being behind the camera.
Never aim at something you don’t intend to shoot.
Because they like to pretend? Kids should never be allowed to play with guns! Why didn't the lethal weapon have a lock on it?
