It’s the same wage suppression corporations do with legal immigration keeping wages down and other means to fix labor costs.

This may work for a limited time. When the profits start coming in, Greed will take over. We can hope this works, however, it depends on the owners or CEOs if it is a cooperate owned company.

Let me correct you:

When the profits start, the regulators will harass them out of business because they do not donate to the right politicans.

The companies would market their beef both domestically and internationally as being of higher quality than meat processed at larger plants.

Facepalm. Why not just sell to grocers in the Midwest region of the US?

Something to think about. Small mobile butcher shop.

This could be good for the ranchers, but don’t expect it to lower consumer beef prices one cent. Just because the processing plant is different, the retailer is the same. Until the overall supply increases, the prices will not drop.

I assume that “regulatory compliance” and liability exposure would make sale to the public cost prohibitive, no?

And the hassles of dealing with the public.

Inspections generally are not a problem as we try to be as hygienic as possible.

Where’s the beef? Not on my dinner table. Can’t afford it. Just checked and a boneless chuck roast is over $10/lb.

The drought several years ago started the rise. When ranchers were practically giving away their stock, grocery prices jumped and stayed high. Made no sense then, makes no sense now.

In 2021, U.S. beef production is estimated to be 27.54 billion pounds. Exports represent only 7.1% of total production in 2021 vs. the same percentage in 2020. I doubt the spike in Chinese purchases has much to do with the surge in beef prices. America is just good in beef production; note that Mexico and Canada are the fourth and fifth largest foreign purchasers, even though both countries have large cattle industries.

I skipped the grocery store this year and bought 1/4 cow direct from the farmer. Grass fed, harvest to table in one day. Great tasting beef and I now have a solid 6 months to a year of beef in my freezer.

Look at you...producing from God’s green earth.

Good for you! That’s truly a blessing!

It's going from a live animal to killing, gutting and initial chilling where the contamination danger comes in.

OK, that leaves out 'in store' work. Could grocery chains operate a state-wide processing center? Buying direct might be necessary to avoid massive food inflation. Every step along the food chain adds costs.

I grew up a poor hillbilly with an outhouse and carrying water from the spring. I joked that we lived on wild game, fish and harvesting edible wild plants, before it was vogue. Not many people canned polk greens as asparagus!

Worst part was biting into the lead shot!

Great idea IMO.....

We had a family member owned butcher business and you could buy meat right at their meat counter...by far better meat. It’s still in business today. They ship too!

This place is fabulous in PA....and they ship....plus they offer “bundles”.....in business a long time. Father to sons run it now. Very popular because the meat is excellent. Butchered right there.
