I thought I knew what Columbus Day was for, but after the renamings and the moving of it to different dates, it has become “the Lag B’Omer of American holidays” for me. At one place where I worked, they moved it to the day after Thanksgiving, creating the paradox of putting Columbus after the Pilgrims.

I grew up in Yonkers, and Columbus Day was celebrated as an Italian American holiday just like Saint Patrick’s day was for the Irish.

That is an outright lie.
Interesting that it keeps coming up though... You dog whistles just got keep on punting though.
Continuing something that started 40 years ago isn’t a bad thing. Especially in South Dakota with the number of Reservations they have.
Unless some of you think that we should finish the job and just wipe them out entirely?

Except Noem is actually Pro-2A, private property, pro-business, anti-bigger government, doesn’t suck up to the Romney/Cheney GOPe, etc...
Plus, she’s a lot better looking than Nikki.

Native American aren't native. They are from Asia. Should be called Primitive Migrating Asians. Anyone born here is a Native American.

Same. This was such an easy thing not to screw up (don’t say anything maybe?)

Interesting that it wound up being a Federal holiday and St. Patrick's Day is just a day that everyone knows, many celebrate, but no one gets off, like St. Valentine's Day. And there have always been at least as many Irish in most of the ethnic cities.

St. Paddy’s Day is a legal holiday in Boston. It is called Evacuation Day, because it is also the day the British left Boston back in 1776.

Columbus day was never about anyone’s culture.
It was about intrepid explorers.
