McAuliffe campaign mocks GOP’s Youngkin, belittles Black group for endorsing him

The campaign of Virginia Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Terry McAuliffe is brushing off the endorsement of his Republican opponent, Glenn Youngkin, by the Hampton Roads Black Caucus (HRBC).

Youngkin tweeted Saturday that he was "humbled" by the endorsement by the HRBC, which bills itself as a nonpartisan organization aimed at "enhancing the Black community." The group previously endorsed Democrats McAuliffe for governor in 2013 and Ralph Northam for governor in 2017.

"I am incredibly humbled and honored to have the support of the Hampton Roads Black Caucus, and look forward to working closely with them and all Black Virginians to implement my Day One Game Plan to make Virginia the best place to live, work, and raise a family," Youngkin said in a statement Saturday.

"Terry McAuliffe has hurt Black Virginians by turning his back on our schools and children, making our communities less safe, and causing the cost of living to explode," he added.

McAuliffe’s campaign and allies have attempted to diminish the endorsement by downplaying the group’s influence.

I think it is sad that free wheeling voting is going on while in my precinct in Virginia I have to show my state ID and rattle off my address to get a paper ballot to fill little circles in to vote. The take the ballot over to a tally computer to aggregate the district votes. Pretty secure and verifiable ( easy to compare the paper records against the computer records when needed. It flys in the face of the Democratic Party tricks and helps keep a somewhat stable election process.

“I thought VA Governors can only serve 1 four-year term?”

Virginia limits Governors to non-consecutive terms with no lifetime limit.
What has usually happened in the past is governors served their term then went on to other things. Runs at U.S. Senate, business, whatever.

Since Virginia started public elections of Governors in 1851 only Mills Godwin has served two terms. His first was as a democrat from 1966-1970, then as a Republican from 1974-1978.

If it were a real election, Youngkin would be a shoo-in.

McAwfaul has made me sick since he was Clinton’s Bag Man in the ‘90s.

Me too. Just listening to him speak makes my skin crawl. The very definition of a carpetbagger. He makes sleazy hucksters look good in comparison. May he go down in flames this time.

I believe the state constitution prohibits two consecutive (or more terms) but is not so explicit about serving a second non-consecutive term. A loophole McAuliffe is exploiting.

I think Terry is running so he can run for President in 2024. He knows Biden can’t do it and Harris is unpopular. He can run as a governor instead of former governor
