I may be more distraught than usual as I’m dealing with the illness of a beloved pet, but I think even if I were not I’d have to acknowledge that in the absence of any rational leadership things quickly are spinning apart here.
Even in the best, most efficient emergency room in the capital wait times to be seen -- something that rarely took more than half an hour -- now stretch to five hours. The stress of long hours and the vaccine mandate have caused many experienced nurses and technicians to quit and newer replacements take time to train, especially in the absence of more senior staff to do this. Veterinary hospitals as well are overwhelmed and understaffed. It’s not just here. I’m getting reports of medical care bottlenecks around the country -- at least in big cities or nearby adjoining areas, and the reports blame staffing shortages -- shortages largely due to vaccine mandates and job stress.
Grocery shelves are often empty in many parts of the country. We’re back to limits at some shops on essentials like water and paper goods, and building supply deliveries are unpredictable and delayed. Container ships line up at our ports with no means to unload and transport the goods where they are wanted. (I keep having daydreams of General Patton unclogging a similar wartime bottleneck by standing in the middle of the road and personally directing movement.) There are various explanations for the shipping snafus, and I don’t feel qualified to decide which of these is responsible. I have heard that the operators of the equipment are highly skilled and highly paid workers and are not easily replaced by, for example, military or National Guard troops. An engineer familiar with such things, says that is not true.

Somewhere in one of these disastrous bills is spending to build charging stations.
By the taxpayer...no one subsidizes building gas stations for my car...I DAMN sure don’t want to pay for some idiot to charge his car.

Shelters in our area are at capacity. Even rescues can’t take any more critters. Cats seem to be the most common surrender.
I bought a Prius and loved it. I passed it on to my son to help him keep his gas expenses down. He now has a Prius Plus and I recently drove it when I was delivering his shop equipment to his new home in the Atlanta area…and it is a damned fine car!
I wouldn’t even consider an US-made EV.
Wait till electricity goes up 800% like Europe is doing now. I keep 200 gallons of gas on hand just in case. Hard to do with electricity.
Our restaurants, in competition with the couch and netflix for workers (everyone making 15-22 hourly), have managed to maintain bare minimum staffing levels to remain open our normal hours (barely). However, this has put extra pressure on staff who have to work harder, longer hours to cover the gap. They are tired and frustrated. This causes service levels to be sub par. Everyone suffers the result of this evil plot to destroy the American dream for those who need it most perpetrated by those who get paid no matter what happens. One can only trust their time will come.
Seems to me that the so-called “virus pandemic” & resulting restrictions is causing most of the personnel shortages & I think it’s mostly unnecessary. Imagine how most of the problems should quickly disappear if restrictions were lifted! Shipping, hospitals, schools, stores would all be affected & that’s only the ones I can think of offhand. Sure, the Covid virus has been a huge problem, but it seems it’s getting blown all out of proportion. It would be a big disappointment, of course, to those who don’t want this to happen.....
I do not have an electric car...they make no economic sense and are impractical for our lifestyle.
They may be ok for city fleet type vehicles that can recharge at night but hitting the open road hoping for a plug is no way to go....
What ever you do, do not blame Biden, the democrats, or their policies for the labor shortages, rising prices, bare shelves, closed restaurants, etc., etc. It’s not their fault!! All of this was caused by ‘that other guy’.

We leased one, then bought it. It was the wife’s and I liked it more than she did. When it hit 60k she traded it in on what she wanted. A loaded Jeep Grand Cherokee High Altitude. Kicker is she has a highway commute and the MPG between the two cars is negligible.

Sure is but what would the average citizen do? Germany closed their nuke plants, dismantled the coal plants and trying to go to wind and solar only. The wind quits blowing and it gets cloudy resulting in having to import electricity at any cost. Russia is jacking them around on natural gas prices.
