Australia has lost its only decent political leader just 10 days away from the most critical phase of the coronavirus pandemic.
She wasn't toppled in a party room coup, charged with a crime, diagnosed with a debilitating health condition or hit by a bus.
Gladys Berejiklian was instead effectively knifed by unelected lawyers and bureaucrats from the Independent Commission Against Corruption.
Her shock resignation as NSW premier on Friday will throw the state's emergence from three months of lockdown into chaos and is a body blow to Australia as a whole.
The country's biggest state is now rudderless with a bloody brawl brewing to replace her and the victor will be weakened, unelected, and without the public trust Ms Berejiklian spent 18 months building.
NSW was headed for a massive Covid vaccination rate and optimism was finally returning through a clear roadmap back to freedom.
Will all this now be derailed?

You’ve kind of made my point for me.
That point is that organised resistance doesn’t have to involve fighting in the streets.
There’s a lot of organised resistance going on here in Australia too - but it’s mostly taking the form of - well, paperwork, in my case.
Or quiet protests of various sort.
It’s not dramatic. It doesn’t attract all that much media attention.
But it’s happening.
I assume the same is true in America. But when I’m asked why Australians are fighting in the streets, I think it’s legitimate to ask the same questions of America.
Australia has never been a republic.
And Australian conservatives don’t generally want it to be.
“But when I’m asked why Australians are fighting in the streets, I think it’s legitimate to ask the same questions of America.” I assume you meant to include the word NOT in your statement above. I don’t know who in this country is asking for Aussies to engage in violence but, I am not among them.
But, your response of actions in your country regarding “paperwork” is, “no offense”, pathetic.
The answer right now isn’t violence but, it is MASSIVE public displays of dissatisfaction. That is happening here in the USA.
Polling by even some Leftist MSM is showing that the outcome of the 2024 Presidential election is very likely to result in President Trump becoming the second President in US History to win a second term after not winning a second consecutive term.
The American people are not happy with the Tyranny of the Left. And, the resulting decline of wages, jobs, public safety, buying power(inflation), etc...
I don’t want to pick a fight with you. These are genuine questions.
One of the things we are told about the current situation in Australia is that the information you are allowed to get is heavily censored. It is heavily censored in the U.S. also, and the problem is getting worse. But supposedly Australia is even worse than here.
So... If you post something online in Australia that is contrary to the official state position on Covid, what will happen?
If you do not get vaccinated what will happen?
Are you aware of the successful protocols using ivermectin and hydroxychloraquine? Are you aware of the MANY studies that have shown these work? Are you aware of the scientific explanation for why that is so?
Side Note: The vaccines developed using mRNA technology were approved for use in the United States without the normal testing. That could not have been done unless it was believed that no alternative existed. Alternatives clearly DO exist, but that information had to be suppressed in order to justify the lack of testing of the vaccines.
Are you aware of the way the vaccines were tested? If so, are you aware of the MANY things that would normally have been done but were not?
Are you aware of the massive number of serious side affects that have occurred?
Nothing. I do it all the time.
If you do not get vaccinated what will happen?
If you work in certain jobs, you may not be able to work - that's been the case for some health care and disability care workers for a while, but is being gradually extended. So there is pressure there to get vaccinated. It technically remains your choice but you can put your employment at risk. Rules differ from state to state, but this is one area where the Federal government is generally backing the states.
Are you aware of the successful protocols using ivermectin and hydroxychloraquine? Are you aware of the MANY studies that have shown these work? Are you aware of the scientific explanation for why that is so?
Yes. Any information about things like that is probably just as easy to get here as it is in the US. We don't have any censorship to stop it.
Are you aware of the way the vaccines were tested? If so, are you aware of the MANY things that would normally have been done but were not?
Same answer.
Are you aware of the massive number of serious side affects that have occurred?
Same answer.
Frankly, if Australia wanted to implement any widespread censorship of information from overseas, I probably wouldn't be here on Freerepublic - well, actually I probably would be because I know how to use a VPN but the fact is they don't.
Guess what. I'm not seeing much reporting of this in either the US news media I watch here, or the Australian media I see either.
I'm not going to say it's not happening - but it's not getting much coverage.
I might suggest that you're not coming close to seeing everything that's happening in Australia either.
“Guess what. I’m not seeing much reporting of this in either the US news media I watch here, or the Australian media I see either.” This response speaks VOLUMES about your level of engagement and information. If you think that MSM reporting is any indication of anything remotely approaching Truth you are sadly misinformed.
The MSM is a part of the Leftist misinformation campaign. 99.99% of Media at all levels are Hardcore Leftists. They are Agenda Driven. They are the Propaganda Arm of the Leftist Movement.
If you haven’t realized this fact by now you’d better get with it and educate yourself. Any reliance at all on the MSM is the equivalent of a Lobster entering the trap for a taste of that rotting Codfish. It won’t be long after that you’ll be placed into a pot of boiling salted water.
Thanks for the answers.
I was about ready to write Australia off as a lost cause.
How about the roughly 30,000 Australians not allowed to return to their country from other countries?
There is no excuse for authorities in Australia to treat protestors against the lockdowns as common criminals.
They are using the tactics of Communist China.
Australia has revoked free speech by its citizens.
To argue not as many Australians are being beaten by police as Americans might think is a hollow argument. NO protesting citizens should be beaten by police in Australia ! NONE
What Australian leaders are doing is not based upon science and they will NEVER achieve Zero Covid. It is impossible and a fool’s errand.
You just seem to want to fight.
I don't get all my information from the mass media and I never said I did.
What I am pointing out that you obviously are not getting accurate information about my country. If you were you wouldn't be spouting the nonsense you are spouting.
It's becoming obvious I'm wasting my time even trying to communicate with you because you just want to believe the bullshit you've been fed.
Well, snuffle on. I'm be embarrassed to be so gullible.
Does that give you the fight you want?
Those Australians were strongly encouraged to come home last year.
But they decided they'd be better off overseas.
Now, they've changed their minds. Do I feel sorry for them? Somewhat. But they had every chance to come home and they decided not to because they felt they'd be better off staying where they were. That's called freedom of choice.
There is no excuse for authorities in Australia to treat protestors against the lockdowns as common criminals.
I agree - when all they are doing is protesting.
I am totally opposed to decisions by state governments that have fined people simply for gathering together and protesting.
But when they start damaging property and assaulting people, that changes things. Those things are crimes and they don't stop being crimes just because somebody says they are protesting.
(I do allow for the fact that in some cases, but certainly not all, the people were provoked by police action).
They are using the tactics of Communist China.
Interesting. If this place is such a communist hellhole, why would there be 30,000 Australians trying to get back here? Why would you encouraging them?
Australia has revoked free speech by its citizens.
No. It hasn't. If it had, I'd be in a lot of trouble.
To argue not as many Australians are being beaten by police as Americans might think is a hollow argument. NO protesting citizens should be beaten by police in Australia ! NONE
Peaceful protesters, no. But when people assault police officers, those officers do have the right to defend themselves. Far more police have been injured in these 'protests' (I used the inverted commas because the ones where this has happened have gone beyond being mere protests) than protesters which does indicate to me that most police are acting appropriately and responding reasonably to attack. There are exceptions - I've seen a few. I want those police prosecuted.
What Australian leaders are doing is not based upon science and they will NEVER achieve Zero Covid. It is impossible and a fool’s errand.
I agree. At this point, so do most Australian governments. They gave up on the zero covid goal weeks ago.
They do good politics as far as I’ve seen them and hit Biden harder than Fox News here in the USA but its about the freedom not to get jabbed which is the issue they all steer clear of.
I’m in the middle on the jab because I think both sides push their agendas too hard and don’t tell truth.
But I support the freedom not to get the jab and your governments have tied lifting of restrictions to vaccination targets from Scott Morrison on down.
All I see in your country, Canada and here in the US various schemes ranging from scare stories in the media like hospitals are overwhelmed to mandates for employees from government and business alike.
They twist arms to get jabs in them.
Gladys Berejiklian was instead effectively knifed by unelected lawyers and bureaucrats from the Independent Commission Against Corruption.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Obviously the Australians also have a deep state problem.
She should not have resigned, but should have taken the resignation to court. Even in Australia, one is innocent until proven guilty.
It sounds like black mail. They must have had photographs in flagrente delecto the member from Wagga Wagga or some such.
It might sound like it, but it isn’t.
What he was talking about was the idea that unvaccinated people are more likely to get sick and overwhelm the healthcare system if they are allowed to attend events where they are likely to be infected.
That’s been his position for months. It’s nothing new.
It is important you keep us informed, and informed correctly.
Doubtful. I think she knew that she would be hounded by the msm spinning the ICAC allegations, which would make her position untenable. She resigned for the sake of the party, imo.
All the best fellow Aussie from the great white north.
