According to the author:
1. Unemployment insurance
2. Early retirement, pensions, disability and lawsuits
3. Savings, trading stocks, and bitcoin
4. Working for cash, aka the under-the-table economy
5. Living off family members
6. Illegal work
7. Living off the land

Two things:
1 -- I plan to retire early myself in a few years (if before I turn 60 counts as "early"). So I'll be part of the 16-64 not working. I don't know why he stopped at 64 instead of, say, 60 or 62 (ages to collect SS).
2 -- I wonder how many of these 16-64 aged non-working men are illegal aliens? I'm sure there's TONS of under-the-table pay in that segment alone.

my sil does not work...he used to...worked for many years but now in his 40's and on their new property he is tending the hobby farm....my dtr works from home....
I don't like it....if she loses her job he'll need to get his act together....
I think our love of money over peace and tranquility is a noble idea to a point.

The author confuses diddly squat with untaxable work... But somehow puts unemployment/disability with living off the land.
Here we go IRS... Federal property tax here we go
