Almost one-third of all working-age men in America aren’t doing diddly-squat. They don’t have a job, and they aren’t looking for one either. One-third of all working-age men. That’s almost 30 million people!
How do they live? What are they doing for money? To me, this is one of the great mysteries of our time.
I’m certainly not the first person to make note of this shocking statistic. You’ve heard people bemoaning this "labor participation rate," which is simply the number of working-age men (usually counted as ages 16 to 64) who are working or are seeking work, as a percentage of the overall labor force.

Gone Galt.
Tired of being a tax donkey.
Last night I saw for the first time an ad for Bitcoin ATMs, i.e. buy Bitcoin with cash; obviously designed for the new $600 bank reporting requirement.
Whittlin’.
Why bother. Suck from the tit while the sucking’s good!
Seems like every other person I meet in Cal is on disability.
Tired of being a sap.
How about 16 silver eagles for the day?
My guess that in majority of those cases their wife or girlfriend works and pays the bills
“Beer” you believed it? He was lying for sure. Was going to buy POT, or if not some other drug.
“ The $600 bank account thing is a blanket way to snoop in on everyone without having to target industries one by one.”
When I lived in Japan a score of years ago, I knew quite a few illegal aliens. I was introduced to the underground banking system they used to avoid having to use the government-monitored commercial system. Some guy, usually in a legitimate export/import company, would hold cash, make loans, make bill payments, and transfer money in and out of Japan - all for a fee, of course. Japan at that time was a cash society, so that made such deals less suspicious, but I imagine they’re still around.
Given the number of illegals and foreign gangs here, there must be the same thing going on here.
If government was shrunk down to its Constitutionally legit size then we could have most of it funded through property taxes, natural resources depletion fees, tolls, and people/cargo tariffs. There is approx 70 trillion of residential, commercial, and industrial real estate and if these average 4% per annum as 80% of total revenues (not counting internal tolls) then that is 3.5 trillion per annum for local, state, and federal revenues. The income tax, payroll tax, etc are abominable.
That’s one’s covered under the author’s #5. ;-)
Nice sentiment.
I notice the number of letters in your handle equals 18 (AH).
Surely that’s a coincidence.
Happened to catch a couple episodes of Sopranos this weekend they had a marathon. One of the episodes Tony Soprano brings a bag of cash to a Russian guy who then moved money from an overseas account to another overseas account controlled by Tony.
In the Arab world they have what they call a Hawala network. You bring money to a person here. He calls his friend there and that guy gives money to whomever its supposed to go to. Money gets where it’s supposed to go without ever being moved though I suppose at some time or way the books have to get settled. Of course cash can be smuggled to avoid the $10,000 reporting but when a well dressed woman flies first class with a $500,000 diamond engagement ring she doesn’t have to declare it.

How is that not a violation of the 4th amendment?
As the political class pushes us towards Socialism they are going to find that the people are going to put down their tools and refuse to work.
This is all very strange for a measley 600$’s.
Id like to know who made this up!
Apparently someone is asleep at the wheel.
If you live in Sec 8 housing or any other
housing that receives fed and state monies
you are allowed up to 3k$’s in a bank acct
sav or chk.
That’s the right question. I see plenty that have been on assistance but still have some form of unreported income. It puts people in the stupid place of ‘why try harder?’...it would end up, short term, as a net loss if it meant they’d receive no assistance.
You can bring that to a screeching halt. Just ask him was his MOS was, and what unit he was in
