U.S. Chamber of Commerce pressing House Republicans to save $1.2T infrastructure bill
Washington Times ^ | Sep 23 | By Haris Alic

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is pressuring House Republicans to save President Biden’s $1.2 trillion infrastructure package in the face of rising opposition from far-left Democrats.

A whip list the Chamber is using to build support for the package, obtained exclusively by The Washington Times, indicates it’s targeting 57 potential GOP members who might support a centerpiece of Mr. Biden’s domestic agenda. The Chamber hopes to flip enough Republicans to overcome heavy opposition from the 98-member Congressional Progressive Caucus, who say liberal priorities are being lost as Mr. Biden tries to sell his spending programs on the Hill.

The list of Republicans being courted is both ideologically and geographically diverse. The Chamber is pursuing centrists like Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania and staunch conservatives such as Kelly Armstrong of North Dakota, alike. The business lobby has long backed more government spending on the roads, bridges and other physical infrastructure featured in the $1.2 trillion package.

At the end of the day the two parties are just playing “good cop bad cop” with us. So sure, they just might.

Oh, they’ll come up with some hum-dinger excuse, but I can see them doing it.

There are two different bills. This one is the “bipartisan one” that got 19 Republican votes in support in the Senate. It actually provides spending for what is normally considered “infrastructure.”

The 3.5 trillion one is farther off in time. The Dems have to do that one all on their own, and they cannot find unanimity among themselves on the taxes or the total size or the time frame over which the spending should run.

Normie economists would be very content if the bipartisan bill passed, but the reconciliation bill ran aground.

No detraction from me. The GOP can take a flying leap, for all I care. Not one penny. Not one vote. Let them be the losers they are.

If by passing the smaller true infrastructure bill it makes it impossible to pass the larger welfare bill then that might be an outcome the COC would be very happy with.

Not if it means voting for its “brother,” the infamous 3.5 trillion Trojan Horse.

NO WAY, NO HOW.

Tell the CoC to go F themselves. They are pro China and anti American. Unfortunately many Repubs are beholden to the CoC.

I think there’s some kind of time limit on the reconciliation bill. Keeping the $1.2 on deck...may kill the time requirement on the 3.5 bill.
