Former President Trump filed a lawsuit against his niece, Mary Trump, as well as The New York Times and three of its reporters, alleging an "insidious plot" to obtain and publish his tax records.
The journalists convinced Mary Trump "to smuggle the records out of her attorney's office and turn them over to The Times," the lawsuit claims.
It seeks an award of at least $100 million, an amount which Trump's lawsuit alleges he sustained in damages as a result of the Times' actions.
Mary Trump revealed in her own book that she had provided documents to the Times.

The lawsuit filed Tuesday accuses those reporters, Susanne Craig, David Barstow and Russell Buettner, of "relentlessly" pursuing Mary Trump in hopes of obtaining confidential records that were exchanged as part of a Trump family legal dispute years earlier.
The journalists convinced Mary Trump "to smuggle the records out of her attorney's office and turn them over to The Times," the lawsuit claims.
The suit was filed in New York Supreme Court in Dutchess County.

I believe I read elsewhere that she had challenged her grandmother’s will, and obtained DJT’s records as part of that lawsuit through discovery. The records were confidential, and maintained by the attorneys representing her in the challenge to the will. If true, if I was the law firm, I’d be a bit worried that they allowed her to remove them from the office.
If we had a justice system, they would be worried. But I doubt justice will be done.
