(CNN)The French government has immediately recalled its ambassador to the US for consultation in response to the recently announced national security partnership with the United Kingdom and Australia.
Philippe Étienne, the French ambassador to the US, confirmed the news when reached for comment. In a statement, Jean-Yves Le Drian, the French minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, said Friday that the move was made at the request of President Emmanuel Macron. "This extraordinary decision reflects the exceptional seriousness of the announcements made on September 15 by Australia and the United States," Le Drian said. "The abandonment of the ocean-class submarine project that Australia and France had been working on since 2016 and the announcement of a new partnership with the United States aimed at studying the possibility of future cooperation on nuclear-powered submarines constitute unacceptable behavior among allies and partners; their consequences affect the very concept we have of our alliances, our partnerships, and the importance of the Indo-Pacific for Europe."

The problem is, Macron and his pals already spent their commissions from the cancelled deal.
Biden is batting 1000! Failure knows no bounds with this a-hole!
well, they got the election result they ask for, too bad it’s not what they wanted...
A spat among thieves and scoundrels....
One thing you’ve got to hand to the French, after WWII they decided to invest in their own defense industry and support domestic designs and manufacturing. They’ve been fairly successful and several of the largest international defense contractors are French. So yeah...they are quite capable of designing and manufacturing quality munitions. Their problem is largely political, not technical.
Follow the bribes.
The old MAS 36 was good rifle.
Five eyes. The UK and the Aussies were part of the cabal that scuttled President Trump.
To myunderstanding, the French aren’t part of five eyes.
Vive la France! I’m surprised Japan hasn’t done the same. They are IN the Pacific region- another mess by this administration.
It is starting to be a serious contest between who are the bigger drama queens. The Chicoms or the French
Well this is huff directed more at Australia than the US, given that this affects the project that France and Australia were doing together sans(tee hee a french word) the USA.(Australia now being another country France can’t extract more money from while giving nothing in return). Australia sees China breathing down its neck and nuke subs would give Australia a more effective forward projection of force.
This doesn’t sound bidenesque, it sounds like portions of the government doing things on their own because they don’t ultimately trust who is in the Whitehouse right now and they see trouble brewing that the young woke brats in charge won’t be ready to deal with unless the secret adults have already prepared for it.
Jacques Cousteau was a Nazi collaborator.
I imagine a lineage from his work to the present day French sub industry.
The Anglosphere is far from perfect, but it’s the best thing going.
So apparently, Biden just did this without even informing France and just let them get caught completely by surprise.
Nice one, Joe.
Imagine working on a deal for years and your buddy comes in and steals it from under you.
It would be one thing if it was still in the works. But it sounds like it was pretty much a done deal.
What an a$$ 4ole.
Well France wanted Biden.
Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it.
“...Are French munitions any good?...”
In the mid ‘80’s I worked for an American military supplier subsidiary of Shchlumberger. The French companies tell the French military what the military is going to buy. As a result, they were still building a licensed Ford flathead V8 in the ‘60’s until the powerplant was so outdated it couldn’t power later vehicles. We would receive equipment we needed to build into our systems along with all the data saying it passed tests. But it didn’t work. Breaking the seals and opening it up we found it was lacking critical components. So, the data was a pure fraud so they could bill our company for the product. They said it was almost time for holidays in France and they had to ship it. They’d follow up with the finished components later. They booked a fraudulent sale so they’d get on time bonuses and we ate dirt in front of our customers. As far as quality, their hardware was moderately good but nothing exciting. An engineer once told me, “the French won’t copy anybody. And, NOBODY copies the French.”
Reminds me of the early 90s when some hard disk manufacturers were caught shipping actual bricks
