BLM crowd sing and cheer as Richmond's Robert E. Lee monument is removed after 131 years and CUT IN HALF
Daily Mail ^

The 12-ton, 21ft bronze General Robert E. Lee statue in Richmond, Virginia, was removed at 9am

The statue is the largest Confederate monument in Virginia and the largest Confederate statue in the country

It was erected in 1890 in honor of Lee, a prominent slave owner and revered Confederate Army general

Last year, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam announced it would be brought down in light of the BLM movement

A time capsule that has been in the statue's base for 131 years will be replaced by a new one

The new capsule contains 39 'artifacts' including a BLM sticker, a 'Virginia is for lovers' Pride sticker, an expired COVID vaccine and pictures from a Stop Asian Hate Protest

Richmond Police closed the roads surrounding the statue and fenced it off ahead of the removal

Pedestrians were allowed to watch it from a viewing area on Monument Avenue; they chanted, cheered and sang as it was taken down

Senate Republicans in Virginia and some residents wanted to stop it from being torn down; they say the monuments are part of the state's history

Another statue of Lee in Charlottesville was brought down in July - that was the site of the Unite the Right rally in 2017

Since 2020, 160 Confederate statues, school names and monuments have been removed across the US

The Southern Poverty Law Center says there are still some 2,000 'symbols' still standing across the US

Let’s start getting maps of all signs/statues/etc associated with leftist groups (as if any sane person would erect such trash).

Then, not suggesting this of course, but it would be interesting to see these pieces of s**t trashed in exactly the same manner as they trashed what’s here now.

The sad part is the destroyers will never be satisfied no matter how much they destroy.

>> There’ll always be an America; just not the one we grew-up in and loved.

America is an ideal, not a place. The ideal is dead except in the hearts of a dwindling number of people. When the last free-range children of Gen X pass away, then America will truly be gone forever.

Future generations may reuse the name, but they will lack the divine brilliance of the Founding Fathers who created the first nation in human history where the individual mattered more than anything else.

Lee was undoubtedly one of the greatest men our nation has produced.

Unfortunately, I've always found the following quote to be more than just slightly applicable to modern America:

"Long before our time the customs of our ancestors molded admirable men; in turn these men upheld the ways and institutions of their forebears. Our age, however, inherited the Republic as if it were some beautiful painting of bygone ages, its colors already fading through great antiquity; and not only has our time neglected to freshen the colors of the picture, but we have failed to preserve its forms and outlines."

-Marcus Tullius Cicero

It’s hard to watch a purely racist cult such as BLM prevail. Racists like BLM should never win.

Agree.

Pulling down statues. (Well, we'll just let it happen.) Arrogantly pulling out huge plastic bags of merchandise openly stolen from stores (Bosses: do not try to stop them. Us: Well, we'll just let it happen.)

I say leave the graffiti and just leave it as is. Don’t bother to mow the lawn, etc. Just leave it as a example of the mentality of BLM 3rd world shit hole mentality.

I said the same thing after the riots. Just leave the garbage, burnt out cruisers, etc. where they were and walk away from the area. They want 3rd world shit hole, let them have it.

TRUE - because it's always a thousand times easier to tear something down, than it is to build something worthwhile...

Ironically, America is now more like Babylon, since Roe v Wade, than like the once golden cup of humanity in the Lords hand.

If a nation's citizens won't put a stop to the murder of millions of its most innocent members, even until birth, and at times left to die outside womb, then what chance does a statue of a fallen hero stand?!

And if God made, "every drop of blood drawn with the lash paid by another drawn with the sword", how much blood shall He demand be paid for that spilled by the abortionist's scalpel from sixty-five million innocents?!

Lee freed his own slaves and was in the process of freeing the slaves his wife inherited at the time the war began--manumission could be a lengthy process. He was also opposed to secession but considered his first loyalty to be to Virginia.

If Lee had commanded the Northern armies and won the war quickly, the Union would have been preserved with slavery still intact. How much longer would it have lasted under those conditions?

“He did for most of his life, both his own and those his wife was given or inherited.”

I knew Lee managed slaves from the estate of his wife, I was not aware that he acquired slaves of his own outright.

Lee’s father died a pauper; Lee lived on an officer’s salary most of his life. He may have inherited slaves from some other source.

Can you provide documentation of where Lee purposefully aquired slaves of his own?

I drove by a family having car trouble. They were standing around the steaming car looking confused. I don’t think the technology came from their culture. In the past, I would have stopped to help, but I didn’t want to risk oppressing them.

This is a travesty. Anyone who thinks it stops with Lee or the confederacy is clueless.

I wonder if the Statue of Liberty, or Mount Rushmore is next?

Bolshevists always try to eradicate cultural roots and history.

Eradicating civil war sites makes it easier to gin up the next civil war they’re itching for

“manumission could be a lengthy process”

...And very expensive. Under VA law you had to put up a surety guaranteeing the freedman would not become a ward of the state - The surety was calculated to be enough to provide for all the former slaves life expenses. Thomas Jefferson spend much of his free cash with his projects building and rebuilding Monticello, he is said not to have freed his slaves due to this expense.
