Well, I have an answer now:

To all of you going on and on, back and forth: This is not a "Southern" issue.
It's an issue of history being erased.
(By the way, more Columbus statues have been destroyed than Confederate statues.)
These statues are (were) works of art, bought and paid for, many years ago, and they are (were) a part of American history.
That’s exactly what I was trying to say - last year without question proved this is more than just “anti-CSA”. It is anti-US and anti-white.
Remember not only Columbus, and Founders, but monks and priests were torn down and desecrated.
