Maybe some of us should start taking a collection to collect all these statues. We could at least have a nice super garage to hold them all. A hangar.

And I mean, ALL of them.

Thats a great philosophical discussion. Tell that to a slave in 1860 who had no hope of being free any time in his lifetime.

The Confederacy was wrong, and its good they lost.

Patton was 3rd ARMY, not 3rd Armored Div. I wonder if those who think this are confusing the similar words. The movie does not mention “3rd Armored Div”.

Yes that was my point... Maybe my post was written poorly. My wife's dad was in the Army for 28 years. He was a combat veteran in both WWII and Korea and served stateside during Vietnam. When we tell people he was in the 3rd Armored Division in WWII... 9 times out of 10 they insist that he served under Patton. When we try to correct them, it goes right over the head of most people.

Race virtue signaling is like heroin to some....gotta have it

Or it’s personal...

And they never admit the latter

“Ok I’m an angry black Republican voter on free republic and I hate all this Dixie crap.....racists all of them”

I’ve been here 21 years seeing almost the same bunch say the same thing parroting national review editorial board post Buckley on the South. Many come and go and get zotted and pop back up and have multiple nicks and so on...

Only one ever admitted.....openly....yes I’m an angry black GOPe voter here....

I was like fair enough...you’re wrong but I appreciate your honesty .

This south bashing cabal here is duplicitous and often on the wrong side

The majority were anti Trump though they run from that label now

I’ve tried to keep up with them..

Pop a mole

I'm pretty much into the church history angle. There are many times when God's people were in the right --- and the abolition of slaves is one of the Christian west's primary achievements in society.

I can't stand it when the godless left claims the moral high ground on slavery, especially when "scientific racism" was heating up at the time from the left's holy book: Darwin's On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life, published in 1859 (the year before the Christian abolitionists won the presidential election in 1860).

The slavery vs abolition thing was very much an extension of the spiritual war that was playing out during the Second Great Awakening.

Grant invited Lee to the White House May 1st 1869.

They met privately for abt 15 minutes, no political discussion at all...according to people there.

It’s funny, if he had, and led the North to victory, he’d have also likely ended up as President instead of Grant. He’d have also become the most reviled individual in the South, bar none. He knew what he was giving up by going with his state, and what he was gaining.

Richmond has become too defiled and debauched today to have it graced with his presence.

true, but steam driven tractors didn’t come into use until 1890s and a successful cotton harvester was not invented until the late 1920s. So by your criteria, slavery might have lasted into the 1930s.

2021: The year where politicians destroy monuments to great and God-fearing men of the highest character with a lifetime of achievement who left the deepest footprints in the sands of time, in order to honor a drug-addled petty criminal and amateur porn actor whom fentanyl helped forget how to breathe.

I suppose St Floyd’s last pre-martyrdom action - passing a counterfeit bill - is ironically appropriate. Not that these irony-deficient lefty goons can understand or even detect it. They blithely worship the counterfeit hero of their counterfeit ideology, and we live to see the destruction of the country even as Lee did.

BTW, those “ribbons” are mostly participation trophies. As in, I worked on this project, I was at this camp, etc.

My brother in law is about to be promoted to General... We were teasing him about all the ribbons on his uniform. He came back with, “I got this one for wearing clean socks for two months in a row” and went on from there... I respect his sense of humor more than his political beliefs. The last time we saw him he told us, “diversity is the military's greatest strength.” The primary way you make it to General these days is by being a brown nosing boot licker.

Sadly that describes my Brother-in-Law. He didn't start out that way. He enlisted when he was 18 and took advantage of every educational opportunity that came his way. He became an electrical engineer and then went to OCS. I have known him for over 30 years and his decent into mediocrity started during the Obama years.

There is another thread on page one that implies it will be cut to pieces, but the last line states, "As for the Lee statue, Northam has said his administration will seek public input on what should happen to it next."

So, the fate is yet to be determined.

Yes that seems to be.

My sister had a neighboring friend whose parents were so dear and often came to our functions.

Her father was a vet from WWII with Patton in Europe and he said he’d follow him anywhere. “He didn’t make us do anything he wouldn’t” - like swimming a river to cross it! LOL

this is incorrect. General Scott advised Lincoln that Lee should lead the 75,000 man army that Lincoln had called for. Lee was never considered as a replacement for Scott.
Lee was never officially offered the command. He was asked would he consider that position. Lee never answered the question, he resigned his commission and went South.

I think we need to look into the true full history of US slavery.

Now, many things differed depending on state, etc. But, did you know, e.g., slaves BOUGHT their way out of slavery? Or their spouses?

How do you think so many “freemen” (Freeman) came to be? It wasn’t just escaping, especially in colonial days.

So no, I would not say “no hope”.
