What does the Afghan crisis mean for Turkey? (And other regional players)
Daily Sabah ^ | Aug 16, 2021 | B. Duran

The Taliban advanced toward Kabul more quickly than expected. By Sunday, the group has taken control of the presidential palace in Kabul.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said Sunday that the Taliban had won, as the militants entered Kabul. Ghani left as the insurgents closed in on the capital, before ultimately entering the city and taking over the presidential palace, sealing a nationwide military victory in just 10 days.

U.S. President Joe Biden's administration paved the way for the Taliban’s progress, which already displaced hundreds of thousands of people. Yet it was former President Barack Obama, back in 2011, that originally signaled Washington’s intention to retreat, by saying that the Taliban were not the enemy. In the end, Biden implemented a plan to withdraw from Afghanistan that his predecessor, Donald Trump, had drawn out.

Washington’s most serious mistake was to retreat without putting in place a political transition process at the Doha talks between Afghanistan’s government and the Taliban. That mistake will be the subject of many books in the U.S. American scholars can now tell the story of their country, which failed in its attempts to “rebuild” and “democratize” Iraq and Afghanistan.

It means that China, Iran, and Pakistan are the only players who have any influence there now.

We will see who dominates. My guess is China. They will have the cash to feed the Taliban, in exchange for them protecting their mining operations.

There are no “News” sources inside of Turkey.

Daily Sabah is a State run Propaganda Outlet.

The Truth is NEVER THERE.

Just you wait. Stupid Biden will try to buy his way back in. Money for Afghanistan, money for Iran, money for Pakistan. It won’t work, of course. But it will make the Biden administration feel like they’re still players in the region.

What a story...exactly one Erdogan wants the world leaders to think. HE’s always and forever sticking his nose in throughout the Middle East. A thorn in everybody’s side without a doubt.

Daily Sabah is a State run Propaganda Outlet.
_____________

Understood clearly.

That doesn’t prevent the article from being informative.
Turkey, like it or not is still a NATO member and a strong regional player.

The content of their, ok, biased point of view is telling on how they view the other regional players and our current administration.

Do we still have nukes stored in Turkey? Seized nukes could be Biden’s next ‘mistake’....

The main objective of Pakistan is to continue stirring up problems with India. They are stuck in the thinking of Zia-ul-Haq, not only with respect to Islam but as well for relations with China. Note that 27 percent —$25 billion — of Pakistan's total external debt is a loan from China. https://www.usip.org/publications/2021/05/pakistans-growing-problem-its-china-economic-corridor

However, the takeover of Afghanistan will instigate more Jihadist actions by TTP and ISKP into Pakistan. It seems that Saudi no longer is supporting the policies by Pakistan, instead they are replaced by Turkey, but they have no money.

The long term consequences are difficult to estimate, but sooner or later India and Pakistan need to talk.

This is the kind of Turko-centric crap the Daily Sabah spills:

“A decadelong study in Turkey discovered that the population’s genetic structure is closely linked to people of Italy’s Tuscany and Spain”

I totally encourage Jim to not accept posts linking to the Daily Sabah.
